multi questions and quandarys about returns

I need to return an item I purchased .  I  no longer need it. Part of the return address was scratched off the original shipping  box apparently from shipping.  (Item was shipped Fed ex )  When I tried to go the return section of the add where I purchased the item it keeps trying to take me to the pay pal shipping/returns section.  Do we absolutely have to use ebay's pay pal shipping/returns section for sending back a return?   Or can I ship the item back through my local USPS?  I also tried to contact the seller to verify his return address he  has not responded. What should I do? How long should I wait for the seller to contact me  about this quandary before I have ebay step in?

Does your seller accept returns? Has he approved the return?

Yes,  his add says he accepts returns.  And I could not resume sending the information for the return  because the returns section sellers page takes me to the pay pal shipping/returns page and currently  I have no money in my pay pal account .  So the pay pal page could  not continue the return process. But I sent 2 " contact the seller" letters to him and he has not responded

How long has it been since you received the item?

Have you filed a return request using "I no longer need it" as the reason?  Does the seller accept returns?  How long ago did you receive the item?  What instructions were you give about completing the return after you filed the request?

It may be attempting to send you to PayPal's Shipping & Returns for you to arrange and pay for the return shipping.  Since you're doing a return for a remorse reason, you will be required to pay the return shipping and the seller will only have to refund the item price and not the original shipping and handling.

Sellers aren't required to engage in communications with you and would most likely do everything through the resolution center if you opened a return request.  Have you checked the order details?  Perhaps you will be able to find the seller's return address in there or in the transaction details from PayPal, if you paid through them.
