I have purchased items on ebay for over 20 years.
Very rarely leave negative feedback, I left negative feedback yesterday on a seller.
That honest feedback has been removed by ebay.
Today, I asked ebay to help me get a refund,
since the package was delivered to a location that is over 30 miles away from where I live. ---
(Please note, today, I received seven ebay purchases with no problems.) ---
This established ebay seller kept telling me to contact USPS to get a refund and to get the package. ---
(Have never experienced a seller that pushes that responsiblity off onto the buyer.) ---
I did not purchase the tracking nor insurance, therefore USPS will not issue a refund to me & a long standing seller would already know this. ---
1. Why would ebay removed honest negative feedback ---
2. Buyers should not be subjected to feedback/refund switch and bait (ebay helps if they can remove the negative feedback on the seller) ---
3. I want my refund and I want the negative feedback returned to the seller's history (other buyers need to know how the seller could treat them) ---

Many times when you open a case, depending on the resolution, your feedback may be nullified.

...right now, if you opened a case, focus on that and not the feedback, or you can lose twice.

If you opened an item not received case and it was settled in the seller's favor no feedback can be left. That's been the case for at least the last 15 years. And once removed there's no way it can be reinstated.
If you lost the case because the seller had tracking showing it delivered you need something in writing from USPS showing it was delivered to a different zip code. Use that to appeal eBay's decision.

Why is that the sellers fault?
Sounds like USPS dropped the ball (unless it was mislabeled)
The seller can not locate lost packages.

It is often considered the seller's fault if an item never reached the buyer because the carrier was contracted by said seller to deliver the item to the buyer. If the buyer doesn't get the item, it is NOT the buyer's job to play " Where's Waldo" looking for it.
The fastest way to lose a buyer who would have chalked it up to being a simple mistake is for the seller to keep the buyer's money and tell them " too bad, so sad" and then ghost them.
I would agree that while most sellers don't choose to lose their buyers' items, and that its not wholly within their control, there still is a basic responsibility to make their customer whole by giving them their item or their money.

I have shipped a lot equipment over the years, and UPS/Fedex shipments are more sender friendly than USPS.
Unfortunately with USPS first class it seems the best thing (as a buyer) to contact your local post office and hopefully they can do some good. Sometimes it takes a while for a "not at this address" to turn up. I agree the seller should help, the seller should hope for a returned parcel, but there is not much to be done.
I have issues with the buyer knocking the seller simply due to a USPS problem. If they were rude, That can be stated in a negative.

I agree that there needs to be understanding by buyers as well. It is indeed aggravating to read posts where buyers rant and blame a seller for losing their items and leave negative feedbacks - when it was the carrier who had done so. But then, a lot of that frustration stems from the buyer being left in the cold- a totally avoidable situation.
I have had items go missing, and have been left to open research cases and do legwork on my own trying to land missing items, and in many of those cases, I was that buyer being ghosted by sellers who flat- out didn't care if I never got my stuff nor my money. It is THAT type of seller I can't stand. At least they can pretend to help. Lets just say that I felt less apt to help them when the time came, either.
That's kind of what I was referring to. If a buyer has it within their power to visit their local PO ( or district offices for other carriers), they can do so. But It would seem that a seller would take an interest in at least helping beyond the " I sent it" stage.
Luckily, my experiences in this realm have been limited.

We are on the same page and have been on both sides.
I had some post cards go missing a while back, I know the seller is honest and hoped for the best.
Found out at the post office they were returned for insufficient postage. Long story short , the showed up about a month later and it was a postal error. The tracking stopped working, lost who knows where.
Happy ending, but not the sellers fault.
I have dealt with rude sellers too.
I received a negative years ago as a seller from a package that took 32 days to get to Reunion Island. Stuck in customs because it was a specialized electronic item. Not my fault, had all of the paperwork etc.
Lost his mind and even received a refund from Paypal after 30 days.
Nothing I could do to improve the situation.
Folks expect sellers to know everything, not always the case.
I was just wondering if the buyer left the negative due to the lost package ( blaming the seller ) or due to rudeness. It seems ebay negative forgiveness is becoming quite common, but some removals are legit.

Exactly. Good points.
I have always felt that negative feedbacks left because of shipper error or to serve as product reviews are irresponsible. So too are upper-cap-lettered rants that are clearly posted by nutters. If I am vetting a seller using their feedbacks and I see these types of negatives I will tend to ignore them. Many are posted in the heat of the moment and ill-considered.

Did the seller say those actual words or maybe just say that tracking shows delivered and to check first with post office to SEE if package was misdelivered and if not then it could possibly have been stolen..both of which is not sellers responsibility. Either way since you claim that it was delivered 30 miles away then you did due dilligence and hopefully got proof of zipcode scam and present such evidence.
As far as why the feedback was removed (certain words can't be used such as thief, liar, etc.) only you know at this point what you said and as far as showing your history of "rarely" leaving negative feedback I can't attest or negate as you set your FB private.
Each time a man stands up for an ideal or acts to improve the lot of others or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope.

Below is the correspondance history & the tracking.
My feedback was not rude, nor about the purchase, it was only about the established seller refusing to contact USPS about the issue. It really bothers me that Ebay has removed the negative feedback, it means that Ebay supports this seller’s behavior whenever there is something wrong during shipping.
---------------------Sept 1st, Friday, Labor Day Weekend------------------------
Sep 1 You didn't get the item
"xxxx7336 --- was not delivered to my address, per tracking this went to LaVergne, TN ----- I live at xxxxx Nashville, TN ------------- please get the item shipped to me ------- not sure why USPS delivered to the wrong address ---- please confirm receipt of this email
Sep 1 Seller added tracking details
"Hello, I strongly recommend contacting USPS regarding this issue. Unfortunately, there is not much I can do from my end regarding a mistake made by USPS. Thank you!"
Sep 1 Your message
"Please email me a copy of the shipping label
Sep 1 Seller message
"Hello, Per your request, I have sent you a copy of your shipping label, as well as the packing slip for this order. You will find this in your messages inbox. Thank you!
Sep 1 Your message
"Have filed a request with USPS. Lets hope they find it & get it to me. Not sure, why it was delivered 30 miles from my location.
Sep 1 Seller message
"Thank you for the update, I'm sorry this is happening, I know it's frustrating. I hope USPS will be able to help you further.
Sep 1 Your message
"FYI Usually, the seller asks USPS to find the package, not the purchaser. Please know, that if I do not have a response from USPS by mid-week, I will be forced to ask for a refund. To be honest, I have never had a seller to tell me to find the package. (And I have been purchasing on ebay for over 20 years.) I purchase most of my clothing from ebay, and thank goodness, few have been lost. I really would rather have the top, than a refund. And it is neither person's fault.
Sep 1 Seller message
"I understand, thank you for the information."
------------------- after labor day weekend ------------------
Sep 6 Your message
" Please issue a full refund of $15.28. Since you purchased the tracking, you will need to file the claim to be reimbursed. I have not received the item, and I do not live in LaVergne. Not sure why USPS insisted on delivering a package to the wrong address, my only reasoning would be that there is a LaVergne address on the package. Please note I have been purchasing clothes on ebay for over 20 years and this is the first time, USPS insisted on delivering a package to a wrong address. I really wanted the top, if it ever makes it to me, I will pay you, but please issue my refund. I am not responsible for any of this. Sincerely, xxx Nashville, TN xxxxx "
Sep 6 Seller added tracking details
"Tracking number shows delivered, please reach out to USPS for assistance if it was delivered to wrong address. Item was shipped to address provided in the order details at time of purchase, thank you.""
------------ buyers Note: on Sept 6th, I left negative ebay feedback concerning the seller’s not communicating with USPS
Sep 8 You opened a case
"USPS delivered my purchase to the wrong address. Seller expected me to contact USPS & to get a refund from them. I did not purchase the tracking number, nor the insurance. Seller has been completely been dismissive of their responsilibities. Please help me get a refund, I do not live in LaVergne, TN. ""
------------ Note: after clicking on the Ebay requesting help button (Sept 8th), then looked at the seller’s history & realized that my negative feedback from Sept 6th had been removed
