eBay Guarantee coverage

I am thinking of buying a MacBook from eBay. The item has been specified as brand new in the details. I contacted the seller to ask about the warranty. He says it has never been registered with apple and comes with apple warranty. Now, these things haven't been mentioned in the item details.

If this device does not have a warranty after I buy it, does "eBay guarantee" cover this?

P.S. I have messages in my inbox and their email copies.

Re: eBay Guarantee coverage

@piyuschawl-2,

What seller*by*day wrote isn't 100% correct.

"Apple will honor their warranty if the item is purchased on ebay. The reason most manufacturers will not honor the warranty has nothing to do with paper trails and criminal activity. Warranties are typically only valid when the item is purchased from an AUTHORIZED DISTRIBUTOR."

Actually the paper trail does have a bearing on whether or not a warranty will be honored by a Mfr.  I have bought several items over the years on ebay that were listed by authorized dealers. All of them had to be paid for by entering my credit card info on the merchant's account. When I received the item a copy of the credit card receipt and a bill of sale came with them.

Authorized dealers have to agree to specific handling and storage terms, before becoming authorized. Therefore a store receipt is absolutely necessary to register or file a warranty claim.

One more thing about purchasing New anything on ebay where a warranty is a concern.  Many sellers buy close out or superceded items from either a manufacturer or an authorized dealer. They buy on what is refered to as the Gray market.

Those items are sold by the stores or Mfr, rather than being held or put on sale, because the warranties are no longer valid. Batteries may not hold a charge, or parts for repairs are no longer available etc..  Before purchasing an item like the Macbook  look up the model number on the Mfr's site, if it is still listed there it generally will still have a valid warranty.  If it is no longer listed, then it likely will not have a Mfr's warranty, and overstock was sold off on the Gray market.  If you really want that model MacBook and it is not listed on the Mac site, spend the extra money for the aftermarket warranty.

Re: eBay Guarantee coverage

You are covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee.

You may have to pay for return shipping.

You are covered by the Paypal Buyer Protection policy.

You will have to pay for return shipping.

You may be covered by the chargeback policy of the credit card you us to back your Paypal account.

Most manufacturers will not honour warranties when the item is not sold by an authorized dealer.

This is because they have no papertrail.

Ignoring possible criminal situations, the item may be refurbished, an insurance survivor, old stock no longer available, or damaged by a previous owner.

If the price is good but not ridiculous, go ahead.

But there won't be an Apple warranty. If things go wrong, more than six months from now,

you will be paying Apple for repairs.

Re: eBay Guarantee coverage

@reallynicestamps @piyuschawl-2 Under the money back guarantee the buyer does not have to pay for return shipping and with paypal, there is a return shipping program!!!!

Apple will honor their warranty if the item is purchased on ebay. The reason most manufacturers will not honor the warranty has nothing to do with paper trails and criminal activity. Warranties are typically only valid when the item is purchased from an AUTHORIZED DISTRIBUTOR.

If the listing specifically states that a warranty is included, then you are covered by the money back guarantee and paypal buyer protection. if it does not say a warranty is included, then you won't be covered if the only issue is lack of a warranty.

Re: eBay Guarantee coverage

EBay MBG- The seller pays return shipping if the Claim is Not As Described. The buyer pays return shipping if the Claim is Buyer Remorse. But most buyers will go for NAD, whatever the actual reason.

PP- The buyer pays return shipping. He can then claim the amount from PP (not the seller) if he has signed up for the program.

https://www.paypal.com/ca/smarthelp/article/what-is-return-shipping-on-us-and-how-do-i-activate-it-f...

Return Shipping on Us is available to customers who have activated the service and have a qualifying transaction on their PayPal account.

Apple warranties: Apple will honor their warranty if the item is purchased on ebay. ....Warranties are typically only valid when the item is purchased from an AUTHORIZED DISTRIBUTOR.

There is no mention of the seller in this case being an Authorized Dealer.
