bought an item and custom taxes are through the roof. what now?

im trying to contact my customs office and see why they are asking $100 on something I paid $145 for.

what are my options cause im not paying 70% customs when I know there is only 17% vat and a few extra fees they like to thieve as extra but no way in hell im paying $250 for a belt.

I went to the post office. I have no t received it, I dont have a number to call. only a link they gave me and when I tried to send an appeal for the theft taxes, it says I can only use chrome edge or safari and I use a hardened firefox browser and nothing else will be installed on my pc.

what are the options?

I knew they were customs fees but never ever have seen such theft for parts. not once.  I figured at most itd be around 30% with their thieving junk fees slipped in, but 70%!!

I have no number, I cant send an appeal.

No one here on this public forum (which is made up mostly of U.S. users) can answer your questions about Israeli customs, or help you contact the customs office to which you were referred.

No one who works for eBay can help you.  Nor can you seller help you.

If you cannot install a different web browser on your computer, perhaps you can find a public computer to use.  Here in the U.S., public libraries have computers to use, at no cost to patrons.  Maybe the same is  true in Israel.  Or perhaps a friend could let you use a computer for this purpose.

I can tell you only that here in U.S. anything sitting at customs id considered abandoned if all the assessed duties, fees, etc., are not paid within 15 days of the assessment.  Abandoned goods then become the property of the government and may be used by the government, destroyed, or sold at auction.

says 21 days. and if I didnt get the item, I still lose my money if I didnt receive it? what if I deny the package and send it back to the seller?

are you a seller on ebay?

now I remember what the problem is. they want me to log in with my id through any of these 3 browsers and that will never happen as a pro privacy advocate. I dont install apps on my phones besides 2 that I must. if they had email or they had phone I could do that.

Of course you will lose your money if you abandon the item.  Duties and the like are solely the buyer's responsibility. They are not the responsibility of the seller.  Your seller has fulfilled every obligation of his.

You will also lose your money if you deny the package and try to send it back to the seller, because doing so negates the eBay Money Back Guarantee.

Either pay the duties or abandon the item.  You did not do enough to determine what the duties would be before making the purchase, so the loss is yours, either way.

If you privacy matters more than being able to discuss this with Israeli customs, then consider it the cost of your privacy, too.

I buy and sell on eBay.  This is a posting ID.

I pressed best answer by mistake. there is no best answer here

I will get my money back from the cc company. ive found some sellers who websites  out of ebay, when you search for their business.  so have bought that way. easier then buying here.

everything is overpriced here. must be the extra thieving fees.

If you refuse delivery you lose your protection under eBay's Money Back Guarantee. So you won't have the item or a refund for it.

As maxine stated, this is not a problem eBay or the seller can help with. The absolute only entity that can help you is Israeli customs, since they're the ones levying the charge. You'll have to work out some way to contact them.

easy to see when a seller or buyer replies. very noticeable, the biased perspective.

Ill do a chargeback if I need to.

I haven't sold on eBay in decades. So no bias here. What you fail to understand is that the seller has absolutely nothing to do with customs charges. Neither does eBay. And I suspect you'll find that your credit card will refuse to do a chargeback because you refuse to pay or investigate customs charges.

Uh, who else could reply here except a seller or a buyer?  No one from eBay works on this board.  eBay doesn't even maintain or monitor this board, which is done by a company eBay contracts with.  So all posters are just eBay users like you, sellers or buyers.

Good luck on the chargeback.  The goods were sent to you and are not in your possession because you've abandoned them at customs rather than pay duty and fees, or even look into paying them.  I don't know of a credit card company in the world that will give you your money back under those circumstances.

And, by the way, I think you can undo the "Best Answer" since you don't really like my answer, by just clicking it again.

So trying  screw the seller because you failed to do your part and pay the sees you owe your own government?

Go ahead and try it. Then when your credit card company sees your false claim they will block you from any future protection.

If everything is overpriced why bothering to shop/buying anything on eBay?

I understand your frustration, but eBay sellers and eBay are NOT responsible for fees charged for exporting goods from the US to your country.
