Zip code scam

Hi all,

This could be a long post, but I’ll skip it.

I think I’ve been a victim of the zip code scam.

I did not receive my 15lbs, $750 musical-instrument-related item, even though UPS tracking shows it was delivered.

I do have a letter from the post office showing the exact location the item was delivered, a local veterinary clinic. Same zip code, but not my address, and I am unaffiliated with this clinic.

I stopped by the clinic, and was given the actual package, which consisted of a padded envelope containing 2 blank DVDs. The clinic also gave me a signed letter on their stationery stating that the package was unsolicited, and that they had never heard of the sender.

The package/envelope’s USPS label was addressed to the clinic, but had the same tracking number as my ebay item. Tracking shows that the label was created the day after I won the auction.

It looks pretty clear to me that I’ve been scammed, but I’ve seen varying levels of success with “package delivered” disputes on this forum.

What is the exact process I should use to get a refund?

Since you have the delivered item, open a Return request citing 'Doesn't match description/photos'. The seller will either send you a return shipping label (for you to use to return the tapes for your full refund), or might just refund you without a return at all.

If the seller has done nothing after 3 days, ask eBay to 'Step in' through the case. You'll receive a refund. Good luck.

Zip code scam

You could go through hoops to substantiate a claim for "Not received" buy demonstrating the fake address etc.,  but it would make more sense to just file a claim for item not as described.

@budice007   You are one of the lucky few that actually got the fraudulent package in hand. Good on you!

There is as others posted a lengthy process to prove the fake tracking scam but doing as suggested and filing the Not As Described case will be the quickest & easiest way to get a refund.

When all is said & done, leave factual feedback.

It's very rare for a zip code scam victim to be in your position.  Congrats!!  You're holding all the cards, hope you nail the seller's A$$ to the wall!

Open an Item Not As Described return.
The seller will have 3 days to accept the return and pay return shipping or refund without returning.
If they don't, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in for a refund.

Have a great day.
