Today, I won an item with the highest bid of £610. Just before I could pay for it, the seller relisted the exact same item with a starting bid of £449 and a Buy it Now price of £650.
There is no option for me to pay for the item I won.
It appears the seller wanted more money for the item, so they relisted it with no regard for the highest bid. There were no reserves.
Can I please be advised as to my options in this case? Surely, this can't be standard practice on eBay. I expected the seller has an obligation to go through with the sale, as the buyer has an obligation to make prompt payment for the won item.
Thanks.

Many times the seller will have more than one of the same item.

While true, it does not appear to be the case here. Since it’s no longer in the buyer’s purchase history, the seller exercised their right to cancel.
Unscrupulous, yes, and I don't condone the seller's actions.

That seller was stupid. Many sellers believe a buy it now price is a reserve. Since you wanted the item and know what a jerk that person is-I'd go bid and destroy their Buy it now price.

Sure, but there is no option for me to pay for the auction I won. It doesn't appear in the Purchase History, Bidding, Offers, and Didn't Win sections of my profile.
Also, the item was listed as an unwanted gift. The listings are identical, except with the inclusion of a Buy It Now price that's £40 more than my winning bid.

I'm not very used to eBay and I find it defeats the point of an auction if the seller can simply ignore its results and relist the item.
It puts me off future auctions.
So, I just have to move on as there's nothing I can do about it?
Thanks for the response

Since it's no longer in your purchase history, you cannot leave negative feedback which is unfortunate since that would be the only thing worthwhile to do at this point. As far as anyone is concerned, the sale never happened.
Not to add salt to the wound, but the seller most likely used the reason "buyer requested cancellation" when processing it.
Here is the policy on cancellations. https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/cancelling-transaction?id=4136

Did you receive something from the seller or ebay saying that the purchase had been cancelled?
