Why Can’t I Leave Feedback for a Canceled Order?

I won an auction and was the top bidder. 20 minutes later, I got a message from eBay saying the seller canceled the order because they were "out of stock or the item is damaged."

Why can’t I leave feedback for the seller? Shouldn’t buyers be able to leave feedback in cases like this?

Why Can’t I Leave Feedback for a Canceled Order?

Seller being "out of stock" already got a defect on their account.

Maybe eBay doesnt think it should allow buyers to make things worse by leaving negative FB when the seller already has a seller defect to overcome??

@epicnova,

What was posted in the first reply is correct but @klhmdg , forgot to mention that the seller would also be charged the final value fees for the sale, along with getting a defect on their account.

If you were the only bidder on the auction did you check the seller's feedback profile page before bidding on the item? If the starting price was a low one, chances are the seller was a new or very inexperienced one, who took ebay's poor advice to: Start auctions at a low price :To encourage bidding", which often does not work out well for new sellers.

  Had they gone through with the sale, the seller may also have run into the 21-30 day payment hold, and not known about it or how to deal with it, causing problems for the both of you.

I was not the only bidder and what is funny is he has now relisted the item at a much higher price. So it was not out of stock or damaged they just were not happy with the final auction results.

Might understand that if he had not relisted the same item again with a higher starting bid.

@epicnova    you can report the seller.

BUT the seller already got a defect on their account and eBay cant make the seller sell the item. I dont think there is a cancelation reason of "didnt sell for enough" - the only reason a seller can use and get a defect is "out of stock"

Honestly, there is nothing more eBay will do.

Seller used "out of stock or the item is damaged" which how could it be either if he immediately relist.

Seems like this would be some violation of ebay policy in which case you could do more not sure if such policy exist.

Just kinda annoying that I changed my entire schedule in order to bid and even contacted seller ahead of time with questions before bidding and all was good but then I win and he cancels and relist the exact item.

Thanks for your replies guess I will give him the WIN 😑

@epicnova,

"I was not the only bidder and what is funny is he has now relisted the item at a much higher price. So it was not out of stock or damaged they just were not happy with the final auction results".

But was the final price a low one for the item?  That's one of the problems with bidding on new or inexperienced seller's auctions.

While one policy was violated, Not going through with the sale, the seller has been punished by ebay. They did not win.

eBay does not block sellers from relisting an item that was cancelled no matter what reason was given for the cancellation.

You could have placed an automatic bid, for the most you were willing to pay for the item, before you weren't able to be on your device any longer that day.

I guess you also don't know that there are bidding "sniping" services you can use to have bids placed for you when an auction ends at an inconvenient time.  Do an online search for

Ebay auction sniping services.  I use the one that rhymes with Blitzen when I can't be available to bid at the end of an auction.

You can't leave it before now because you didn't know where to look.  If you wish to leave appropriate feedback (calm, factual) and the links you usually use have vanished (for some reason they do if the transaction is cancelled even if the reason is not one for which leaving feedback is foreclosed):

Go to anyone's Feedback Profile (click on the Feedback Score in parentheses following anyone's User ID) and scroll to the bottom of the page to find a link that usually works to give you a link to leave feedback for each particular eligible transaction.

Or go to your own Feedback Profile: Click your Feedback Score "(##)" in the header of your post or from the main www. ebay.com selling site (as opposed to this community.ebay.com community site where those still link to the real Feedback Profile instead of having to do multiple clicks and scroll to find it) over "Hi [your name]" in the extreme upper left and then on your Feedback Score; from your Feedback Score (if you are logged in and everything is working OK) there should be a list of items you can leave feedback for at the top, plus links to leave replies/follow-ups for feedback you received/left for others.

If you leave your maximum bid (remember to allow for shipping) with eBay, it will be automatically placed as other bids come in.

If you prefer to "snipe" at the last moment, there are online companies that will do that, DH uses esnipe.com for bidding in eBay Australia auctions, since they usually close when he would rather be asleep.

"Nibble" bidding is usually a poor choice since it is all too easy to get carried away, or to be beaten at the last nano-second by an electronic sniper.

If he was correct then no seller would have negative feedback for the buyers to see.
