Tried to return an item but royal mail said address incorrect in the ebay label

Hello

I brought a laptop but the one that arrived was not what I had brought. Contacted the seller who said they had accidentally sent me one ment for someone else and sent them mine. I printed off the return label eBay scent me and posted it back.

I messaged the seller to let them know everything and they thanked me. After sending it i messaged them saying I would rather just a refund then them sending me the correct laptop, as the one I incorrectly received the charger was tapped up and didn't work. I've not heard back from them since I scent this message.

I've checked the item tracking on royal mail today as I've not heard anything yet and it is saying it couldn't deliver the laptop as the address was incorrect and it will be returned to sender (me).

It was the label eBay sent me so surely the address should be right? What happens now?

I've messages the seller informing them and have asked if their address on their account is correct.

Ok I've heard back from the seller, and it seems the issue is the eBay return label for some reason didn't have the house number on it. So this is the reason it couldn't be delivered I guess. The seller has said if I can't update the delivery address (can't find an option to) then if I resend it when I get it back they will pay the cost to resend.

Does this effect the return for refund process? Would I have to cancel that and start again as that is using the tracking number of their label?

Nope, don't do anything, and stop talking to the seller. Completely.

After Royal Mail tracking shows the item is delivered back to you, eBay will refund after 2 business days, or click to ask eBay to step in to, get your refund.

Then and after that @kentanstormcracker the seller can send you a new return label, to return the item to them. DO NOT PAY FOR RETURN POSTAGE YOURSELF you will not be repaid.

@kentanstormcracker ,

First off you have posted your issue on the U.S. based boards, and while the dispute and return processes are very similar between the two, there can be differences in the procedures.  Because of that you may want to login to ebay.uk and double check our answers.

You replied that the seller wrote saying:

" it seems the issue is the eBay return label for some reason didn't have the house number on it. So this is the reason it couldn't be delivered I guess. eBay did not forget to add the house number to the return address. Those labels are generated with exactly what information the seller gave them when they registered. I would not purchase a return label and ship the item back.  eBay may not accept a new tracking number as proof of delivery.

You have two choices at this point;

1)  Go to the resolution center console and write that the  package was returned for not having a home address on the label, and then ask ebay to step in.

2) Tell the seller to add the house address to their shipping / return address  information, then to re-issue a return shipping label, and try to cancel the first one through the Royal Mail.
