Shopping on your Phone?

My better half shops on her phone.  I think most all younger people shop on their phone.
Me? Not so much, I need a desktop to do any serious shopping.
  BUT,  I will battle with my phone initially quite often. (usually won't follow through until I'm at a PC though).

SO, I noticed the other day, on my phone.
Search / Sort Low to High:  And I never saw the "See More Results".  Couldn't even find it on my phone.

Is that correct?

I use my iPhone only to raise my bid or withdraw money from my "available funds".

"See more results" pop up under general titles only.

Careful with the eBay app. Of all the apps one has on their iPhone the eBay app uses more battery life than any other App on the iPhone.

Shopping on your Phone?

@12345jamesstamps
  I'm inquiring about what one can see on their phone-vs-desktop.
  There's a seller, selling "Lapel Pins".   If I search on my desktop
(97 Escort Wiper Motor)  (sort Low to High) then (Used) then click "See More Results", I can see those Lapel Pins.   (and I know why, even though they have nothing to do with an Escort wiper motor).

However, when I run that same search on my phone, I can't find "See More Results".
Is that option on anybody's phone?

Type in to search "germany stamps"....and see if "see more results" pop up. I have an iPhone and I hate seeing "see more results".

There's been some studies done and generally speaking 60-70% shop online via mobile device.

It's a conundrum for many types of venues such as news organizations, list based venues etc.  People want brevity yet the world isn't brief and that results in literal hordes of disinformation or misconstrued information.  You can see the wave, societal effect, its become very much a concern as those folks coming of age where mobile tech is a normalized portion of life are less informed, more reactionary, less forward thinking and more towards a day to day existence than any sort of life plan.

More and more are using voice search on the cellphones and on Android devices that what you're met with basically.  Its changed the way Google for example thinks and in large part why the company is placing more emphasis on shopping which the company has always struggled with.  It's likely AI when applied to commerce searches at Google it's going to be a game changer.

This IMHO should be a significant goal here.  An eBay App for buyers that is focal on finding things, saving, comparing all via voice.  That's no small task mind you especially considering global linguistics per se.  Now whether its worth development costing versus counting on Google be something need seriously weigh.

YES!  I see it on that search.
I tried my wiper motor search again, and I do not see See More Results on my phone.
But I DO see that on my PC.

My issue is:  When I list items, I usually try to be the cheapest, or right there with the cheapest.
AND, IF that "see more results" was not being shown on a Phone?  That would change my pricing game plan.
Basically, instead of researching my prices on my PC, I would need to research my prices on my phone. Since I think more people "nowdays" buy with their phones instead of their PC.

I think the increase in Returns is due to the increase in cell phone shopping also.

Amazon has been a pioneer in a form of AI for searches. It prioritizes in its results for a search, what previous customers who did the search bought. This yields some search results which drive sellers crazy but it is a successful strategy for Amazon since it is likely to make a sale within a customer's attention span.

It is unlikely that any company with a marketing staff will allow Google and its AI algorithms to decide on the search results.

Ebay sellers already complain because the search results do not reflect the placement they would want. Just wait until Ebay deploys AI in the search, we will need flameproof underwear to visit this forum.

The increased use of mobile apps is ideal for manipulating purchases, and it is going to make it very difficult for many sellers who do not understand how to grab the attention of a potential buyer. I see so many sellers on this forum whose images are too cluttered and product names are too cluttered to survive if all of the sales were on the mobile apps. And lots of other posters who compliment them for the quality of their listings.

An adjustment in seller's listings is long overdue.

Shopping on phone is the worst! I don't need to even need to go into details. Everyone knows. Especially sellers.

Now the bigger picture is the younger generation thinks storing every single piece of personal information (Driver's license, S.S., bank info, C.C. info., and so on is just cool and neat until you lose your phone, or it is stolen, and that tech savvy hacker breaks in.

side note: Recently, it was disclosed that many if not every state, the BMV sells our information. Indiana BMV makes 6 million and it is presented as if we are just to accept it and move on.  WAJ!

Shopping on your Phone?

Hi @redlinear

Exactly what shows up on a phone depends on whether one is using the eBay app,

I’m using an iPhone right now to answer questions … but don’t use the eBay app.

I shop on my phone … but only to put listings on my Watchlist.  I would never purchase anything without scrutinizing the listing on my computer.  Phones don’t show everything.  In fact, so many details are missing on a phone that I don’t know whether ‘See details’ is one of them.   Sorry.  ☹️

I swipe up to see "more details".

Shopping on my phone is OK - I don't do much shopping, or if I do just do it while I'm on my PC working, anyway.

The answer is: it depends... on several factors.

If a search returns few results, there may be no "see more results" because all the results are already being shown. The "see more results" option only appears if the filtering is working successfully, and that may only kick in above a certain number of results (50? 100? It may depend on context, so there may not even be a single cut-off number, it may vary).

Or the "see more results" may not be shown because that particular keyword search itself is broken, even though there are actually more results to be seen.

The only way to know for sure is to try the same search with a different sort order (other than "Best Match" which has the opposite problem of often showing too many unrelated results) and see if you get the same number of results.

@house*of*paws
  I'm using the app.
And I agree on the purchasing.  I think phone purchases have a whole lot to do with more returns now than used to.

@eburtonlab

   "see more results" was an option on my PC.
  it was not an option on my phone app.
  (same search on both).
 I was simply wondering if "see more results" might be something not shown on the phone app.
But, I see now that it is, yet....not like it is on a PC.  (which is a bit confusing).
