Selling on multiple sites. PoshMark Mercari

I saw the same  item by the same seller  listed on several sites. On Mercari and PoshMark for a fixed price, and auction on eBay. I purchased it on Mercari. Buyer took the offer there and didn’t ship the item. She kept the eBay auction running and then cancelled the Mercari when the eBay outsold. This has become a common pattern and is so disappointing. Any advice?

If you have no recourse on the other site, stop buying from sellers who lost in multiple places.

It is not uncommon.

Other items (non fashion) are also listed on multiple sites.

Some are gaming the system, some just looking for the most exposure.

I saw a book here the other day that I price checked and found the exact same one on Amazon too.

It is just the way it goes now days.

Those other sites have rules on seller performance also, they cant just blow you off because  there is interest on another site.

I doubt eBay will ban this practice and require exclusivity.

Good luck!

I should add this,

I do question using a auction platform while listing on other sites.

You can pull a buy it now item anytime with no issues.

They may be waiting until the auction ends to contact you for the sale on the competing site.

That is not right.

Cheers.

There is no recourse for multi-platform sellers because in order to really make ends meet with online sales, more and more it's necessary to sell in multiple places. What your seller did, though, was really poor business practice and I'm sorry it happened.  You're going to run into these amateurs from time to time.  They generally learn the hard way not to string buyers along.  Multi-platform sellers need to stay on top of sales and not play games.

Not the correct thing to do but not uncommon either. Best to move onto another better seller. Best of luck to you....

Seems like a lot of work to list the same thing on multiple platforms.  I’m multiple accounts here and one on Mercari - I don’t mingle any listings across sites.  I’m trying to track time spent on listings against profit - I’d hate to lower my return on time spent just to grind out an extra 10% on one individual sale.

@bonnerelle

Are you saying that Mercari sellers do not have to complete transactions even if they have been paid?

Did your Mercari seller just refund you with no explanation?

Does Mercari have no Buyer Protection policies?
If that happens on eBay, the seller would be forced to refund and would have a Defect on her account which could lead to higher fees, restrictions on the number and value of her listings, or even a closed selling account.

A seller who practices such tactics is cutting off their nose to spite their face. They will not have repeat buyers and can earn poor reputations when customers complain. I certainly would bring this to the attention of the platform. Sellers who create poor buying experiences are bad for business.

It takes me almost no time at all.  I can write up a listing initially in about 2 minutes and then to just to c/p onto another platform and drag and drop the photos is another minute or so.  I don't duplicate all listings, but I do a lot.  It's going to be different for each seller, though - it may not be worth it for some markets.

Not much can be done here as the ''eBay'' side of things went as per protocol.

If there is a way to report your seller on the platform they reneged on - I would do that.

On Mercari, sellers aren’t paid until after

delivery and either a positive

review or a two day waiting period to provide the buyer with an opportunity to submit an INAD.
