Seller of Pick up only item not responding after payment

Hi,

 

I have bought an item a week ago which is collection only. (payment via paypal credit card)

 

I have messaged the seller everyday since then with no reply. 

 

I am trying to open a case with ebay but the only option it gives is "contact seller" who is not responding. Estimated delivery date was the 23rd of july and even though it is the 24th of july ebay does not give me the option to file a complaint. 

 

I have been trying to get in contact with ebay help but their automated system is useless. 

 

What can I do now ?

You bought an item that was collection only, but you paid for it with Paypal and are expecting it to be shipped?

Did you make those arrangements with the seller? If not, the seller is probably waiting for you to show up to collect your purchase.

Collection items are to be picked up, not mailed.  Usually it's because the seller does not want to go to the expense and trouble of shipping some big, bulky item like a piece of furniture.  

You should return to your home site, eBay.com.au, and pursue your issue there.  You need to continue to try to contact the seller and perhaps ask eBay to step in to help you.

You have posted your question on the U.S. based site (ebay.com) since you live in Australia you should login to that site (ebay.au.com) and post your question on those community boards since the info we give you may be different on this site.

Collection only or Local pickup listings as we call them here should not be paid for in advance.  They are just like classified ads in newspapers or on social media sites, where you arrange to meet with the seller inspect the item and pay on the spot.  Because you paid up front the seller has no incentive to complete the transaction. 

 

What you will have to try and do  is to report the seller.(here is where you need to check my info against the Australia site's).

 

At the bottom of our pages there is a Help and Contact button. Click > on it, and On the page that opens there is a Help box on the right

In the Help box  click on Resolving buying problems.

The page that opens is titled Resolving issues with sellers

Scroll down to,  Reporting an item or issue with a seller click

Scroll down the next page to the  Report a seller button click

Select the buyer has violated one of eBay's policies. 

Fill in the seller's username,

Select Other and fill in the details in the text box.

Keep the message short and stick only to the facts. 

On  /  /2020  Paid for a collection only listing (ebay item number here)

The seller has not responded to repeated messages to arrange a meeting. (check my messages).

 

Your other option will be to navigate PayPal's site and try to get a refund through them. Again mention collection only and note the date the payment was made and the date the listing ended.    Good Luck

Hi,

 

Thank you for the reply. I have put in the report that the seller is not responding so that I can arrange collection. They now have until the 31st of July to respond.

 

After this time if the seller has not replied then ebay will step in.

The problem is that the seller is not responding so I cannot arrange collection !!!

I don't know why I didn't think about this yesterday, but have you checked the seller's feedback profile page?  They may have many feedback but none for selling or none for selling in the past year.  If that is the case your payment is being held by PayPal who places a 21 day hold on all new or returning sellers payments.  The seller will see your payment marked as Pending on their PayPal account. 

 

If that is the case, the seller may see your messages as an attempt to scam them, and that is why they are not responding. You can try messaging them again and tell them to login to their PayPal account, click on the Help button, then type Payment Hold, or why is my payment on hold into the topic search box.  Then they will get the information on how to complete the sale and get the funds released sooner.  Usually that involves shipping an item with tracking, but since this is a collection listing, you leaving feedback as soon as you pick up the item.  They may be able to get the payment released.

 

In the future Do Not pay for a collection only item until you go to meet with the seller.  Simply commit to buy. Then you can message the seller with your contact information.

The above advice directly contradicts eBay's customer service agents, who told me that I needed to complete check out before picking up the item...
