OMG! I told the seller I would buy their NEW hair dryer with attachments if they would take a picture of all inside. Just want to make sure it is all there. They said they did not want to remove the hair dryer and attachments. I told them you don't have to do that, just open the box and pull out the tray it is in. I know it is in a tray. They sent me a picture with the flap open. Then I ask to see the contents and they sent a picture with the manual & cardboard on top. LOL!! I guess I'm asking for too much. Are people really that lazy? I guess I won't be buying it. Something must be wrong with it.

Prime example of a seller who's taken laziness to a whole upper level.
Feel free to shop elsewhere. And feel free to tell the seller why you won't be shopping with him.

Hi @drlee00
The seller may be concerned that if you don't purchase the item after they pull out the contents and photograph it ... that someone else will complain that the item is Used, because it's no longer 'New in Box'.
I'm glad you asked for the photo before purchasing the item ... so no harm, no foul.

New means NEVER BEEN OPENED on ebay.
New: The brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item is in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details

Note to seller: Thank you for your time.

How is the seller going to list it as new, if they open it for you and you decide not to buy it? Then they would have to list it as open box and drop the price ...I've had buyers request the same thing and I refuse to do that, it's not worth the risk...if the picture shows it is factory sealed then it must be new and have all the required parts in it...would you go to Walmart and start opening new boxes to see inside?

No, because if I get it home and it's missing parts, I can pop back down to Walmart with it for a refund or replacement. Here, it's a big hassle if there are parts missing. And through the years, I've bought many a brand new, unopened item only to find parts missing, often just a few screws or a manual or somesuch but occasionally something critical.
Plus, it's actually better for a seller to use New - Other - Open Box - Unused but Packaging Opened because sealed boxes are big invitations to unscrupulous buyers to file INADs, since the seller could not know what was in, or was not in, an unopened box.

An opened box can not be guaranteed as unused. I would not want an open box hair dryer.

I have to agree that I wouldn't want an open box on any appliance. Often retailers and even manufacturers simply resell returns in their original box closed with some scotch tape. You never know if the item's been used. So yeah, if something's sealed in a box, no way am I going to ask a seller to open it before I buy.

I have, when the first one I bought was missing some pieces.
When I got the second one, I wanted to make sure all the pieces were there.

Exactly, one may be getting a return in what appears to be a "new, unopened, sealed" box. I've seen listings that were obviously that.
But the way cords are wrapped, all the little bits and pieces of tape and clips and twist-ties, the individual plastic bags, usually sealed in some way, and even the way the components fit into their plastic or styrofoam trays, can simply not be made to look new and untouched once an item is open and used.
At least, that my experience and take on things.

Apples and oranges to compare online purchasing vs in store. I purchased a brand-new office chair for my home from Best Buy. Brought the box home and began to put the chair together, only to discover it was missing a caster wheel. They were inside a sealed clear plastic baggie but only 3 not 4 casters. Called the store immediately and they acted like this was no surprise. Told me to come back for an extra caster. They opened a brand-new box right in front of me, pulled out the clear plastic baggie with 4 casters, cut it open and handed me one caster wheel. Brand new sealed box does not equate to nothing missing but I could not have accomplished all that with an online sale.
Op says the seller sent a photo of the flap open on the box and the manual was out, so they were not asking the seller to open a sealed box. Some of those hair dryer boxes are considered new but are not sealed, just a flap on the box. Inside the dryer and attachments may still be sealed inside a clear plastic bag, which would indicate brand new even with the flap opened on the box.
Everyone has a choice, seller didn't want to play along and lost a sale. Buyer turned to another seller. Life goes on....

I think my biggest issue here is all the invectives the OP is hurling at the seller for their refusal to open the box of an item classified as new. It doesn't make the seller lazy, it doesn't make the item damaged, and it certainly doesn't warrant the level of histrionics in the post. If it's something you insist on, you move on and find a seller who'll comply with your wishes.

No matter that I would have handled things differently, I do agree with you, definitely. Seller can sell as he pleases, and if the way he sells doesn't please a buyer that buyer can move on to another seller.
