I purchased an item and a few hours later it was cancelled and i received a full refund . The sellers reason for the refund "it was out of stock or damaged". I then checked his listing again and saw the same item but the price was much higher from when i originally purchased it. What is my recourse when my order gets cancelled based on a lie from the seller?

Hi, sorry your seller canceled the sale but there is really nothing you can do. If they used the out of stock or damaged reason that will give them a defect on their selling account. It does not take very many of those and they will be banned from selling permanently. If you can leave feedback then leave factual feedback about the "sale"

Yeah. That's one of the stupider tricks sellers learn from YouTube.
They really don't have anything in stock, so no lies there, but leave the listing open with a ridiculously high price that makes them look like slavering greed bears.
Meanwhile they get a Defect every time someone buys the unavailable item.
Leave appropriate feedback (calm polite factual and short) and find a seller who really does have the item in stock.
BTW- if the next seller you see with that item seems to be using the same pictures and/or description, odds are that both are dropshipping. Neither has the item because it is sold out at the supplier in Wuhan. The second seller just doesn't know it yet.

Seller cancellations as out of stock/ damaged are always a possibility especially if the item you bought was below it's average price.
You need to simply move on to the next item that grabs your interest.
Had this happen to me a few days ago

The seller either really is out of stock and has raised the price to away anyone from purchasing while keeping from having to end the listing. Which if this is a multi quantity fixed price listing is quite possible.
Or they weren't happy with the price which is likely if it was an auction.
Either way eBay gives three choices for cancelling for most sellers. Out of stock, buyer requested, and problem with address. The seller choose the one reason that holds them responsible and gives them a defect. Sellers aren't allowed many of these.
You can also still leave feedback

We need to call out the bad sellers and do whatever we can when confronted with bad actors. Thanks for sharing.

It's not so much that my sale was cancelled but that the seller lied about it instead of emailing me to explain it. It shows me something about their character and do i really want to deal with sellers like that. Thanks

I noticed that when my purchase was cancelled i wasn't given the option to leave feedback. This is the only forum that i could use to express my frustration. Thank you so much for your help.

The option just gets removed from the purchase history page.
