Hi
I won an auction for a pair of shoes today...then after i have paid i received an email from the seller saying they have been offered more money and if i am willing to pay more $80 then they will proceed. I never usually bid on auctions as i prefer to buy outright but surely this violates ebay selling policies??

Yes this seller is violating eBay selling standards. They are completely wrong but they will now cancel your order. You are allowed to leave them appropriate negative feedback for canceling your order which you paid for. I would suggest you write something along these lines-- "Seller asked me to pay more $ after I won auction then canceled order"
Not sure if that would fit entirely but you get the drift. Highly suggest you not use all caps or exclamation points as that only makes you look badly and takes away from the message you are trying to say about this seller.
You also need to report this seller to eBay. Anytime a seller cancels an order that is sold and paid for it will be a mark against this seller on their account. Too many of these and their account will be suspended or closed. Chances are this seller is either lying and trying to get you to pay more money or they've done this in the past and it will catch up to them. I'm sorry you had this bad experience with a seller but it does happen. Make sure you leave the appropriate FB so that other buyers will see your comments and think twice before purchasing from this person. Best of luck to you....

Good advice from the previous posters.
I would first report them then leave a NEG with the message 'won the shoes for ___ seller demanded ___
