Seller Feedback Rating Is A Joke

I have never had an issue with any seller until now.

I always thought that if you paid for an item up front, then the seller must give a positive rating to you, the buyer.

How wrong I was and now I realise that Ebay is entirely and absolutely biased towards the SELLER, because that is where they make their money.

In my case, I purchased an item and paid for it immediately via Paypal.

At this point, the seller did not give any feedback.

The item arrived promptly 2 days later, which was a pleasant surprise,  I unpacked it and immediately discovered the item had 2 major faults and was unusable. I just felt that the item was a second or a return that had been re-shipped.

I contacted the seller, who agreed a return, but to cut a long story short, I am still awaiting a refund 10 days later after the promise of a replacement just never arrived.

So, as it stands, I am owed £25 by this seller who has messed me around for 16 days.

Ebay tell me they will not take any action until 29/7/18.

If I finally get a refund and subsequently give the seller negative reedback, there is nothing to stop him also giving me negative feedback, even though he was entirely in the wrong.

Any seller can exploit this ruse and always maintain a 100% reputation.

@iamkjb

Sellers can't leave negative feedback for buyers under any circumstances. If a seller leaves positive feedback with a negative comment, the buyer can call eBay and get them to remove it.

Buyers are not entitled to receive any feedback at all. This is not kindergarten, and you don't get a gold star for completing the minimum requirements of making a purchase.

If you don't receive an item, or you receive an item that is not as described, then you open a case in the Resolution Center, and you will get your money back. You will proably have to return the item first, just like any purchase.

Let's break this down into parts,

1. Sellers have not been able to leave Negs for buyers for roughly ten years so no worry there

2. If the item is not correct and the seller is doning nothing then file a SNAD case

3. You will get a refund through eBay as long as you follow thw rules and timeline

4. Ebay is very very biased towards buyers

5. There is more to a buyer getting a possitive then paying on time but some sellers will leave feedback on paying but they all learn to regret doing so

6.  Have you returned the item?If not then you are not entitled to a refund or exchange because your seller has the right to get their item back (sellers pay return shipping on SNAD items

7. SNAD=significantly not as described

Seller Feedback Rating Is A Joke

People often are dissatisfied if they don't know how the site works.

Seller does not have to give feedback after you pay, and many prefer to wait until you receive the item and post positive feedback indicating you are satisfied.  They don't have to give you a positive; they can opt to give you no feedback at all.

Feedback is voluntary~it is not owed anyone.  That also means not only can anyone choose not to leave it, buyer or seller, it means that they can leave on their time table.  Some post at payment, some post after buyer posts, some post in batches, monthly, or quarterly...and none of these is wrong.

Sellers can't post negatives for buyers.

Since Ebay told you when to expect resolution, that is when it happens.  Most likely that date is tied to the tracking on the item you returned.  When tracking shows delivery, then you are refunded.  It is usual procedure when something is returned.

Hope this helps.  BTW I am a buyer.

Thank you for the comments, I have a couple of points to make.

4. Ebay is very very biased towards buyers

I don't agree. I once bought a copy of Microsoft Office which was described as full retail and cost me £85. It turned out to be a fake. Took me several weeks and loads of hassle, including phone calls, emails and letters and finally had to post the fake copy at MY expense to Microsoft in Ireland to sort out that one.

On another occasion, I bought and paid for an item. Next day, the seller informs me it is 'out of stock' and gives me a 'refund'. Ebay inform me that it will take up to 3 weeks before I get the refund in my Paypal account, yet the payment I made in good faith was taken immediately from my bank account.

In this current instance, the seller has had my money since 5/7/18 but if they choose not to refund me I have to wait until 29/7/18 before Ebay do anything further?

Biased towards buyers? I think not.

6.  Have you returned the item?If not then you are not entitled to a refund or exchange because your seller has the right to get their item back (sellers pay return shipping on SNAD items

Yes I have returned the item and have POD from the Post Office.

Most of the OP contradicts anything that I know of ebay, as an experienced buyer and seller. I had to recheck that the thread wasn't ten years old.

(I suspect not) but are things that different in the UK ebay? You might post this topic on the ebay (UK) Answer Centre

You're right, things are not that different on eBay UK.

I am currently dealing with an international return that will go back to the UK if the seller ever provides the money for the return shipping. The time intervals involved are the same as in the USA. I think it is primarily the amount of time that the OP has to wait that he is upset about. (Leaving aside the feedback issue, which he appears to have dropped.)

Yes, how wrong you were. How did you manage to think that?

As for eBay being biased toward the seller: try selling for a while, and get back to us. That's even more wrong than your expectation for feedback.

@iamkjb,

"Seller feeback rating is a joke".

Actually, buyer feedback ratings are a joke. All buyers have a 100% rating, because they cannot receive negative feedback. That means your 100% rating is shared by non payers and scammers.  If "Ebay is entirely and absolutely biased towards the SELLER" as you state, buyers would have a feedback rating based on the feedback they leave for sellers.

Not only have you not kept up with the changes to feedback policies, but you obviously haven't kept up with the Money Back Guarantee policies and PayPal's refund policies. You are not entitled to have a replacement item shipped or a refund processed until the returned item is received. Then depending on how you funded the payment, it may take awhile for the refund to show up, on your card or back in a bank account. It is not the seller's fault  that refunds or replacement items  can take awhile to be completed.

Seller Feedback Rating Is A Joke

I just have to say, as a buyer and seller here, ebays money back guarantee and return policy is at the top of the foodchain in the online retail industry for buyers. Almost every single item on ebay is covered by most sellers, ebay and paypal and can be returned for any reason. Most instances, for a full refund including your postage.

Like any system, there are rules and timelines that must be followed for both parties and most of the process at ebay is now automated and streamlined as of a few days ago. It is the users responsibility (buyer or seller) to learn how the system works. Learning the way the system works is for the users protection. It`s also the users responsibility not to abuse the systems in place.

They are definitely biased towards buyers   Go read the seller board and see the issues they have it will make your having to wait for money seem like nothing

4. I would highly suggest that you try selling a few hundred items, you will quickly learn which way the bais lays and it is without question toward the buyer. Also a large percentage (refunds) of your points in #4 are actually Paypal perview not eBays.

6. If you have have P.O.D the file a case with Paypal (assuming that you used it) and provide the P.O.D. Once again it is Paypal that will be issuing the refund so you might as well go to them and they have a longer time frame to file a case then eBays does

Besides all feedback being purely voluntary, buyers can be bad too. I got taken by a buyer who bought an item and then 89 days later filed a not as described case and sent a different broken item back to me. Not that I could have left him negative I sure as heck would not have given him positive a week after I shipped it. Bottomline is feedback should be the last part of the transaction, and I don't give it until the buyer has left it for me. I don't do this to be mean but if he leaves good feedback then I doubt he will be filing a case against me later on so I can feel safe leaving him feedback. This is the primary reason I rarely sell on eBay any more. I can't afford to be taken by scam buyers.
