I don't know, I search with very specific search terms, mostly with quotes " ", never have an issue.
Have many times completed 1000+ searches a month. All successful.
What seems to be the exact issues, @cereal_shopper ?

Most of my saved searches just got wiped out - the most important one now leads to a generic category page, others had all filters scrubbed. Only very few very specific searches survive.

That might give other members something to go on if similar experiences have been had.

Do not erase your old searches; there is a chance that whatever eBay has done is temporary, or that your old searches can be restored.
There were some major search problems that affected lots of users today -- you may possibly be seeing some fall-out from that.
One thing you can try is signing in to your account using a private or incognito browser window, then try your searches again. If your searches work in a private or incognito browser, you should be able to recover your searches in your usual browser window by clearing your eBay browser history "for all time".
If that does not help:
Can you possibly share a link to your most important saved search directly from your Saved Searches page by right clicking on the search title, choosing copy link and pasting that link into a follow-up message here, and also a description of what you were searching for -- what keywords, category and filter options you were using? Possibly the original link will contain the original search parameters, even if the link is now redirected to a category page when loaded, a new search can be created that covers the same items.
From time to time eBay changes categories around; if a search suddenly gets directed into a new category, some of the item-specific filters may no longer work.
I know that it is no fun when eBay makes unanticipated search changes; back when eBay did away with wildcard searches, I had hundreds of bookmarked searches that all suddenly stopped working at the same time, and each one had to be dumped or recreated from scratch using entirely different search syntax.

It's the same thing they had done before - reducing the number of search result per page and removing the option to change it, killing the ability to search and browse broad categories without a keyword, changing sort order, so I don't believe it to be a glitch.

Searching by keyword is different than browsing.
I find that searching by keyword often provides more options than just browsing a category.
If you are trying to browse an entire category, try searching the category using the name of the category as your search keywords to see all filter options and be able to save the search.
If you describe what you are trying to find, someone may be able to provide some sample search links to start with.
