Retracting a counteroffer

If I retract my counteroffer can I accept the seller's previous counteroffer?

Re: Retracting a counteroffer

Hi @brothers1n2

No ... sorry.  ☹️

Once you placed another offer ... or a 'counteroffer', as you're calling it ... the seller's counteroffer was immediately declined.  It will NOT come back if you manage to retract your newest offer.

Re: Retracting a counteroffer

Hmm.  Retract counteroffer?

Responding to a counteroffer

You can accept, reject, or continue negotiating by making another offer to the seller. Here's how you can respond:

  • Accept and commit to buy – Select Buy it in the counteroffer message
  • Negotiate – Make another offer to the seller
  • Reject – Select Reject offer in the counteroffer message

This is complicated...

Canceling a Best Offer

When you make a Best Offer or a counteroffer, you're agreeing to buy the item if the seller accepts. However, if you've made a mistake when making an offer or a counteroffer, you can retract or cancel it in certain circumstances.

You can retract a Best Offer or counteroffer if:

  • You accidentally entered the wrong offer amount (for example, you submitted an offer of $99.95 instead of $9.95)
  • The description of the item has changed significantly since you made your offer
  • You can’t get in touch with the seller

As well as the above, timing is also important. You can retract an offer if:

  • There are 12 hours or more left before the listing ends
  • The listing is ending in less than 12 hours and it's been less than an hour since you placed your most recent offer

You won’t be able to retract your offer if:

  • The seller has already accepted or declined your offer, or sent you a counteroffer
  • You’ve already made 5 offers in a specific category

Re: Retracting a counteroffer

I have never personally tried to cancel a offer. It is very similar to a bid on a auction.

The seller may not be too happy you are going back a step.

Re: Retracting a counteroffer

I just wanted to go back and accept the higher offer. And pay more.

Re: Retracting a counteroffer

Is the offer in your "My eBay" page under "Bids and Offers"?

I have 2 in mine that are valid.

When they expire, they are no longer valid.

Is it a older offer?

You can contact the seller and ask for a new offer if the item is still for sale.

Re: Retracting a counteroffer

If the original counter offer still shows as active you should still be able to accept it. But if you rejected it to make another counter it won't still be active, so there's no way to accept it. You'll need to contact the seller to see if they'll reissue it.

No.  Once you counter an offer or counteroffer the original offer you responded to is rejected.

Re: Retracting a counteroffer

I believe that any counteroffer whether it comes from the buyer or seller implies a rejection of the prior offer, canceling or retracting the counteroffer will not backtrack the rejected offer and make it active again. But I could be wrong.
