At one point of time I remember being able to request a sellers direct email or contact information after so many days of purchase. Why is this so difficult now?

eBay offers contact through the listing and strongly prefers that buyers and sellers do it that way.
They are concerned about either party attempting to make off-eBay deals.

@debugger256k not necessary to have personal info when all u have to do is click on 'contact seller' from a listing and or a purchased item

@debugger256k For security purposes eBay provides their Messaging system via the Contact link on the item you purchased. Sellers are given more Customer contact info when a purchase is made. When correspondence is done through eBay they have record of it in the unlikely event of a dispute.
eBay also discourages contact outside their venue to cut down on deals being made off their platform ... it is a policy violation if a deal is taken off eBay and if caught accounts can receive restrictions right on up to permanent suspension ...

as it should be, direct email contact has been blocked. email goes through the encrypted email shown in the order details
Not sure what buyers see now, but as a seller, I am provided with the buyer's phone #
I believe sellers have the option to not show their phone #

All I would want is to be subscribed to porn and scam websites. It is good Ebay keeps that private.

Why would you need to contact a seller outside of ebay's messaging system? If you message a seller through ebay's system and they do not respond, what makes you think they will respond to a message sent to their regular email account?
