Purchased and Scammed out of Pre-Order Item

Unfortunately, I wasn't very bright and purchased a Pre-Order item that extended out of the 180 days return policy and money back guarantee as it was ordered back in July. After doing some research, I now know that these kinds of listings aren't even allowed on ebay, so I guess I know for the future. Paypal nor my credit card company won't let me charge back the order as it was months ago, so I'm pretty sure my money is lost. I just didn't think anything of it with all of their positive reviews.

What's even weirder is the seller changed the name of their store between the period that I had placed my order to now? When I go to reply to the messages I sent them after the order, the name is completely different, yet I'm redirected to their new name. That may not have any connection, but it always makes me feel more suspicious.

I've tried contacting the seller with no responses, tried opening a dispute on paypal, and have tried contacting my credit card company...Is there anything else that I can do from this point? Or do I just have to bite the bullet and say what's lost is lost?

You could call eBay Customer Service (or contact them via Facebook or Twitter) and report the seller. Unfortunately, that's probably your only recourse at this point. If you've exhausted your efforts with eBay, PayPal and your credit card company, there are no more options to receive a refund. I suppose there's always small claims court, but you have to file in the seller's jurisdiction and appear in court wherever they live.

It's not unheard of for a member to change user ids or store names. Maybe they do it to fool customers, or maybe they do it simply to update their id and make it more reflective of their account; e.g., changing from "bookseller*heaven" to "clothes*clothes*clothes" when they change their inventory. Hard to say why your seller change the store name. Could be any number of reasons. It would be appropriate for you to be directed to the new name.

Purchased and Scammed out of Pre-Order Item

@peachycollections,

Since you sell on eBay and have been a member long enough, you should know how long the time frames for eBay and PayPal's buyer protections extend, and that transaction details disappear on purchase histories after 90 days, so eBay's MBG can't be used.

You should also know that pre-release items may not released on the date a Mfr. gives for various reasons such as production or developmental delays.  Sorry to say this but, your options for getting your money back have expired unless your card provider has an extremely long time frame for filing charge backs. Most offer 90-120 days now.

Purchased and Scammed out of Pre-Order Item

I have sold very little on ebay in total throughout the years and usually I tend to search if my items are sellable or okay to list as they are in the first place. I have no experience with pre-order items and didn't even know it wasn't allowed as I've seen many listings for them. Like I said, yes, I should have known better and I didn't at the time, we live and learn. I can't be the first person to make this mistake and I probably won't be the last. The point of the post was that I already knew that I made a mistake and wanted to see if there was anything else that I could do.

The item was released a month ago and I decided to be patient thinking the same thing. Usually I make my pre-orders through official sites anyway, but none were listed at the time. When I started seeing all of the pictures online from everyone else receiving theirs and no responses from the seller, I realized it was a dud.

I appreciate your response and it sounds like I may need to just bite the bullet. It happens.

That may be my best course of action here. I'm really hoping too that others haven't fallen prey to the same listing, but I have a feeling that they did. It would be a lot of hoops for small claims court as the total is like $120. Really, in the end, that's not that much, but the principle is just I didn't get my item and I should get my money back. Really sad that there's dishonest people out there doing this. Again, didn't bat an eyelash at the seller because their seller ratings, which included pre-orders looked very positive, so not entirely sure.

Alright, that's very good to know, thanks. I just thought it was strange, especially with the whole instance that I was having issues contacting them and then now there's no items on their store, but I could very well just be acting skeptical.
