Problem with Combined Shipping Request

Hello.

I recently added two items from the same seller into my basket.  I'll call them "A" and "B."  Each of the items has its own shipping costs.  I requested a total from the seller (who does combine shipping costs).  Then I got a message from eBay saying that I'm committed to buy "A" with its FULL ORIGINAL shipping cost.  No mention of Item B whatsover.  Is that normal?  I'm 100% certain that I had the two items in my cart before I clicked on "Request Total."  Any recommendations on what I should do next? Thanks.

No - it doesn't sound normal. Sounds like there was a glitch.

If your seller combines postage, and you had items A and B in the cart, both showing along with their respective shipping costs, you should have been able to ask the seller for an updated invoice, where THEN you should still see A AND B together with the new combined shipping cost.

I would touch base with the seller to see if they can confirm on their end if your request went through correctly.

@jeffchl0,

Without more info we cannot say why you could not get a combined shipping total.  There could be a couple of reasons why you could not get combined shipping when requesting the total from the seller. When you requested the total from the seller are you absolutely sure was item "B" showing?  If "B" is still in your cart, open the listing.

How long did you have the items in the Cart? If it was for several days, or longer,  item "B" may have sold out, and that is why it was not mentioned.  Placing an  item in the Cart does not prevent others from buying it. When you place an item in the cart it freezes the information of the number left for sale, at the time you enter it.. You would have to open the listing to know if there was any left.

Was item "A" a listing that said, Buy 1 item pay $X shipping, each additional pay .50¢ more for each. Was item "B" set up the same way?  Even if the items were basically the same item w/ minor differences and both were set up the same way. You would be paying the original shipping cost for each. You would NOT get the .50¢ for a second item discount.

Re: Problem with Combined Shipping Request

I don't know what you bought but sometimes sellers can not combine items .  If both items are fragile, they are better off sent in 2 separate boxes.  If he/she combines them, then they will need a much larger box and now the post office has surcharges on boxes over 22 inches and over 30 inches.    Hopefully, in your case, they can combine.  See if you can send the seller another email politely requesting that he combine both purchases.

Re: Problem with Combined Shipping Request

Thanks everyone for your replies.  There is indeed some sort of eBay glitch.  When I contacted the Seller, he confirmed that MANY of his customers have brought up the SAME issue to him (i.e. they put two or more items in their cart, then click on "Request Total" but was then "committed" by eBay to buy only ONE of those items with its FULL ORIGINAL shipping cost.)  The Seller is from France and he pointed out that it could be because one item is in US Dollars and the other is in Euro.  I can't fix the eBay glitch (nor will I try) but the Seller was nice enough to cancel the transaction for that one of two items that eBay committed me to buy.  I guess it doesn't work when the two items are offered in different currencies.  But then, I think the Buyer should get some sort of an alert or warning.  Oh well.  A funny side note to share.  This happens to the Seller SO OFTEN that he wrote in his listing that if a Buyer should experience any problems with combined shipping (which he DOES offer), please DON'T pay yet.  Contact him and he'll sort it out.  LOL.  He said he's seen this so many times.  Thanks again to all who helped.

@spark-chaser1 Thanks for your suggestion.  I contacted the Seller who was very helpful.

@mudshark61369  Although the details in my case did not correlate with any of your suggestions, I really appreciate your taking the time to proactively come up with all the possible reasons for what happened.  Thank you.

@ms.rodriguez*  Thank you also for your input about box sizes.  I fully understand.  In my case, it had nothing to do with carton sizes (but that was a good possibility you brought up).  It was just 2 small coins.
