Primitive SEARCH showing ELECTRONICS

Are sellers purposely using the wrong category? It's frustrating searching for most things now and I've been selling for 20 years. It's ridiculous.

@8mizmaze8,

"Are sellers purposely using the wrong category?"

What items are you finding listed in the wrong category that you have been searching for? A couple of years ago ebay did remove some sub-categories making it harder to find some items. Then there can be issues with inexperienced sellers not understanding what category an item belongs in, because they don't know much about an item.

  An example of a search or an item#  you have found that isn't listed properly might help.  Then we can offer some suggestions.

Yes, some do it purposely.

Some sellers purposefully list in the wrong category, either to avoid high fees in one category, to take advantage of free insertions, or just out of laziness.

But there are some items that can legitimately be classified into more than one category, such as a Consumer Electronics category and a Vintage Electronics category.

When searching for hard-to-find items, I often set up two very different searches: one that is very targeted, often just in a narrow category, that finds few if any results but avoids "false positives". This may be set up as an automated search to quickly alert me when such an item is listed.

The second search is much more wide open -- not limited to a specific category, using few if any filters in order to avoid "false negatives". The second search is run less often and requires more sifting through unwanted results, but the second search can find results that the first search does not, if, for instance, the seller lists in the wrong category.

 Yes.
Due to eBay's search manipulation, many sellers are now taking things into their own hands just trying to be seen
