Did you mean:

No MN Sales tax on bullion

Has anyone bought bullion (gold bars) on eBay from MN? Did you pay MN sales tax? You should not pay MN sales tax on bullion. https://www.revenue.state.mn.us/book/export/html/14216

It is a 5 year old law.

Re: No MN Sales tax on bullion

Tax is charged by the state you are in (ship to):  not the state you are purchasing (the state the seller is in) from.

If there are problems with the taxes in your state contact that department as eBay can do nothing but what they tell them to do.

Re: No MN Sales tax on bullion

@jamiedelton,

If you live in Minnesoda you do not pay a sales tax on Bullion.  However, unless your state also exempts bullion you pay its sales tax on the purchase.  Sales taxes are based on the shipping address of the buyer not the seller.

Correct. I asked “Has anyone bought bullion (gold bars) on eBay from MN?” maybe it is better “Has anyone from MN bought bullion (gold bars) on eBay?”

Hi @jamiedelton

The laws that require eBay to collect tax on online purchases are LESS than 5 years old … and do NOT necessarily align with the laws regulating in-state  purchases of the same items.
