I was interested in bidding on something from a seller, but noticed all of their listings say that once you win, don't pay through eBay/Paypal, because they'll send a Square invoice and you should pay through that instead:
"PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ON THE "PAYNOW" BUTTON AT THE END OF THE AUCTION. I DO NOT ACCEPT PAYPAL. THE ONLY WAY TO PAY FOR MY AUCTIONS IS BY A SQUARE.COM INVOICE WHICH WILL BE SENT AFTER AUCTION ENDS DIRECTLY TO YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS ASSOCIATED WITH EBAY. REMEMBER, DO NOT CLICK ON THE PAY BUTTON ON EBAY AS IT WILL REDIRECT YOU TO PAYPAL. ONLY PAY THE SQUARE INVOICE I WILL SEND TO YOUR EMAIL ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR EBAY ACCOUNT."
I wanted to double check that this is safe to do? I was under the impression you should only pay through eBay, but this seller has over 1000 positive feedback.

DON'T DO IT!
It could very well be a hijacked account.
Check to see if the seller has had any RECENT selling history. If not, it's a hijacked account. Either that or it's seller who is trying very hard to get him or herself banned from Ebay very quickly. My guess would be the former.

That's not allowed. You should report the listing. If it flies the PayPal logo they have to accept PayPal. They must allow buyers to pay with a credit card either through PayPal or their own merchant business account. You must pay on eBay or you will lose buyer protection.

No, it's not safe and not allowed on Ebay.
You would loose your buyer protection if you pay off of Ebay.
You can report the listing using the report item link included in the listing.

Just curious, what's the type of item?

It's easy to find the seller. Use the "QUOTED" words the OP posted in an Advanced search and check the box for Title and Description.

They've been doing this for a while.
There is no Paypal flag showing, but it does say this:

Isn't this a violation for avoiding Ebay fees?

All jewelry such as necklaces, pendants, rings, etc. All payments are made through Square invoices, which excludes fees to both Paypal and Ebay.
Of course, it could all be legal, if sellers can add their own merchant account to accept payments for the items they sell. I don't know for sure. Only Ebay would know for certain, if steering buyers away from paying via eBay or Paypal is acceptable.
If this is a violation of eBay Listing Policy, you could get sacked!
