Is there a way around the max number of offers that can be made?

Vendor and i went back and forth on an item and unfortunately i didn't reallize there was a limit to the number of offers i could make.  Now about a month later, I went back  to make a further offer that would have met the vendors last offer but I'm blocked from doing so.  Is there a work-around for this ?

The vendor could revise the price of the item.

Send a message to the seller not attached to the item listing and ask him to adjust the price of the item once you have reached an agreement.

@mikeandterri1987,

What myboardid told you to do might work if the seller hasn't blocked you.  Sellers, are leery of selling items to people who have used up their offers, since some make false Not As Described claims trying to get a partial refund equal to their rejected offer, and if it doesn't work the seller is out the shipping cost for getting the item back.

"Now about a month later, I went back  to make a further offer"

If you go to use Best Offer again, look at how long the listing has left to run. If it has 28 days, the item was newly listed or relisted, and with most of the 30 days left, they are likely less willing to accept much off the item. With only a few days left they might be willing to lower the price more.

Also keep in mind what you offer a seller for an item, is not what they receive. ebay & paypal take 12.9% of the payment includng the shipping cost.

For Example:

Am item listed for $100 w/ Free shipping.

Your offer $80 or 20% off

ebay and Paypal take $10.32 (12.9%) of the $80.,

the seller receives $69.68, and still has to pay the shipping cost.

(there is no such thing as Free Shipping)

When you make an offer it is for the item price only, you cannot ask the seller to discount shipping if they list a shipping price.

The feature is called Best Price, not lowball the seller, if there is a reason for offering more than 20% off, (the item is incomplete or has damage) add a note about  the flaws when making the offer. Lowballing, as a fishing tool, may back fire on yor first try.  The seller may block you, rather than counter offering, figuring you are too far apart on price.

It sounds like the seller has blocked you.  They might feel that any future negotiations with you are not worth their time.  I'd move on if I were you.

You could be blocked because you exceeded the amount of offers, or you culd be blocked because the seller has now blocked you.

Seller can revise the price.  But you get five offers on most items now, and ten in the Motors category.  If you exceeded five offers, there is a good chance you are blocked by that seller.

Excessive offers may be considered to be time wasters, and may indicate the buyer is not serious, or realistic.

I would suggest, if you want to successfully buy, to try to cut down on the amount of back and forth you do; many don't like to haggle.  And Ebay adds Best Offer to listings, but the seller may not want a Best Offer.

Sorry you are blocked.  You may find that you are blocked from communicating with this seller as well, in that case, you will need to find the item from another seller.

It doesn’t sound like the seller blocked you. You made the maximum number of offers allowed. So now you’ll have to contact the seller directly via eBay messages to see if he’s willing to continue negotiating 🙂

not sure of ebays intentions, but in general, 3 counteroffers is enough! either your too far apart or just fighting over pennies. on here, or in person, i rarely make a second offer and wont bother with a third.

Evidently they don’t think 3 is enough since they changed the limit to 5. It’s 10 on eBay motors I think. 3 is more than enough IMO

I sent a message to the vendor and we came to a price agreement. Thanks to all for their assistance.

You get five Offers.

Which in my opinion is about three too many.

The seller is probably sick of you wasting his time.

Bid once.

Bid your maximum.

If you don't win, move on.
