How to document an appeal?

I purchased a book and promptly received a package that contained a completely different book.  I sent two messages to the seller and got no reply. Next, I escalated the case to eBay explaining the problem. Whoever reviewed my case obviously didn't bother to read my description. They closed the case "because the seller provided tracking information."  I didn't claim that didn't receive a package. I claimed that the package didn't contain my order.

Next, I tried to submit an appeal. The button to "Submit appeal" remains disabled and the "Add files" plus remains disabled when I try to add a photo of the (wrong) book I received. I tried two different browsers.

How should I proceed? I don't see any way to contact EBay to review this obvious mistake.

Thanks to all for any insight.

You opened the wrong case going by what you have written. You should have opened a not as described case, you opened an item not received. Tracking shows you received something, just not the correct book. So the outcome of that case is correct, there is nothing to appeal.

You can try open an NAD, if that does not work and if you used a credit card or Pay-Pal, you could try doing a charge back.

How to document an appeal?

Hi @h_sparks

Buyers can only receive that message when they’ve opened an ‘item not received’ case … so you did somehow open the wrong case.

That said, you should still be able to open a ‘Return request’.  Choose ‘item doesn’t match description or photos’ as the reason for the request.

Ask eBay to step in on the 4th business day after opening the request if the seller hasn’t provided a prepaid return shipping label by then.

Read the ebay money back guarantee for buyers, open a item not as described return , follow directions to secure a refund.

Everyone: Thanks for all the prompt suggestions!

I did press the wrong button, "not received" which got me into trouble. I'll try the "‘item doesn’t match description or photos" next.

If I could get the seller to answer my messages, the outcome I'd prefer is to get the book I ordered. The sum of money involved is trivial and I don't want to give negative feedback over an accident (on both sides.)

No worries... eBay will make sure that the seller attends to you. Good luck.
