"I can’t understand how anyone would take the time to post this question on an eBay forum when they can simply enter the same question on Google and come up with literally thousands of scam warnings".
There are two answers for to that question.
A) Because the scam has evolved and people who contact the seller/scammer receive a very realistic looking document purporting to come from ebay support, that looks very legitimate. It has fake item/order numbers, a phone number to contact ebay support, (actually a confederate of the scammer) and a lot of other info, that can easily fool an inexperienced ebay member, and even some very experienced ones, into thinking the transaction is protected by ebay.
B) Because a lot of the info about ebay found in online searches has a lot of bad information, about the site's policies. About the only piece of info one needs is; Never use gift cards to pay for anything found on C.L., M.P./FB, Let go...etc.
Now I have to ask, why you were visiting these boards, when Google searches would probably turn up some results? Didn't you try them first when you posted your question the other day on the Selling board?

People ask their questions here because the scammers, in their listings, give the impression that this sale will go through eBay for the buyer's protection. And everything about their false listing looks very legitimate.

Respectfully, do you really believe the OP found this listing on eBay and was instructed to buy eBay gift cards to pay for a motor vehicle?

It's a SCAM.
