I had a buyer purchase an item, they sent me messages stating they had received the correct items and were happy with them but wanted me to leave them positive feedback. I generally only leave feedback for buyers after I have received positive feedback because let's face it sellers are the ones doing the work and should receive feedback for that work. The buyer then proceeded to leave me multiple messages containing profanity, threatened negative feedback and made other comments. They then left negative feedback stating that the "idiot seller" sent the "wrong item". Uh no I have the message where they admit they received the correct items, were happy with them and all the other messages containing profanity and threats of negative feedback for what is essentially a service not including in the listing which is me leaving positive feedback for the buyer doing zero work.
Does anyone else think this is a example of feedback extortion? I have already gave the buyer a chance to save themselves by sending a feedback revision request before I personally call eBay.
Thoughts?

I really don't think you would so basically without saying it..you want positive feedback for positive feedback left for you and that's extortion in itself.
Their part is not finished at payment, anymore than a seller's part is finished at shipping.
Buyer gets item, if pleased, posts positive, if not pleased, should message the seller with the concern. When buyer posts positive, seller will post for the buyer.
Feedback is voluntary, it is not owed anyone. You pay, you get your widget.
Simple as that. Nothing else is owed anyone.

I believe you are correct about that.
I know that when I buy something on eBay, I have much more to do after I pay. I have to open the package and examine the item to see if it works the way is should.
And, when I sell something, I always have to do more than just ship the item. I have to order more items like the one I sold, and then relist it. Sometimes I make a mistake in the description when I relist it if something has slightly changed about the item.

so you hold back on buyers feedback for that? just glad you cant neg. the buyers! unhappy with buyer, they bought my last 3 items and not only did i have to ship them, i was forced to order replacements! block this buyer before they deplete your inventory and leave you with nothing but cash!

and having a concern (problem buyer) will effect them getting feedback!
"and having a concern (problem buyer) will effect them getting feedback!"
I believe you are right.
I dislike having a buyer who emails me about a concern. I am always afraid that the buyer might buy my item and not know enough about it, causing the buyer to be dissatisfied.
And, if the buyer expresses a concern about the item after he/she has bought it from me, I am afraid that the buyer doesn't like the item. I am afraid this will be a problem buyer.
So, the question is: Should I not leave feedback as a way of letting this buyer know that he/she has already been a little problem? Or, should I avoid letting the buyer know that he/she has been a problem buyer?

I still do not understand why Ebay does not just get rid of buyer feedback all together. Exactly what is a buyer going to do with the feedback. Maybe wear a sign on his back and walk the streets showing off his Ebay numbers. I don't get it, feedback should be for sellers only.

Actually this may be a good example of why a seller would wait to give feedback. Of course they would have to ship the items. Ebay is not set up for replacements, you get your money back. BUT how do you know that THREE items were defective? Supposing the seller had had NO problems with that inventory through many other sales? Yes, of course there is a possibility that something went wrong with these three items, but on the other hand, there is also a possibility that the items were fine.
IF a seller was replacing items, the sellers would have a loss. Basically selling 6 items for the price of three.

i was meaning their inventory, not a defective item. seller stated reasons to withhold fb was he had to order more inventory, relist and update as needed, none of that should effect fb for the buyer. sellers (hopefully) make a profit, their pay for ordering, listing and shipping.

I'm sorry, I did not take replacements the way you intended. My apologies!

Feedback is NOT supposed to be under pressure. When a buyer sends you their money, and your account says you got it, THAT'S when to leave feedback. The buy has successfully completed their end of the transaction--nothing more for them to do. At that point, it's up to you as a seller. I love the way you says "the sellers have all the work...." That why you decided to make money that way. Nobody told you to do it.
I love it--a seller who bemoans having to work to make their money. Must be American.
That is not the end of the transaction for the buyer or the seller. Seller has not shipped~if you feel this way, why not post a positive for your seller when you pay? Buyer needs to receive the item, and post a positive for the seller if all is well, or message with any concerns. If communication is not successful, they need to open a case.
There is much a buyer can do post payment that can hurt a seller. They can threaten in exchange for a partial refund, post an undeserved negative to negotiate a partial refund, file a false SNAD case so they don't have to pay return shipping when it was not a SNAD, it was a buyer mistakejor buyer's remorse. They can return an item that is not what they received. They can rush to negative feedback and a case instead of contacting the seller as suggested by Ebay. Seller may not feel comfortable posting a glowing positive just because the buyer paid, which is what a buyer would have to do whenever they buy something.
This is why feedback is voluntary; no one is owed it and it is not part of the transaction. You pay, you get your widget.

Since the only feedback a buyer can get is positive, there is no reason not to leave it as soon as possible.
Personally, I use feedback to tell my customers when and how their item was shipped, as well as to say 'thank you' for the payment.

"I still do not understand why Ebay does not just get rid of buyer feedback all together. Exactly what is a buyer going to do with the feedback."
The reason we still have feedback for buyers is because it causes sellers to get more feedback.

Feedback is much simpler to me.....I pay my money, I'm done. Anything in the deal after that is the dealers responsibility. I have no responsibility further than paying and waiting for receipt.
You see feedback as being supportive fo sellers--I see it as being for buyer's confidence. The more I've heard about this new American "screw the buyer, we love the sellers!" attitude, the more I hate it. Everything you mentioned that could go wrong with the buyer was absolutely atypical. You sound like a politician.
But you did say one thing that made sense and wasn't entirely supportive of the seller over the buyer--it's voluntary--we don't have to use it. After getting this reply from you, I think that's a good way to go.

Why hasn't ebay removed it yet? If you communicated via the ebay email platform there should be plenty of proof on your side. What reason have they given? If I pm you can you tell me his username so I can block him? (he can't spell either & he jinxed the Vikings w/ his bad mojo!)
