I don't want to bother you guys with this devon@ebay , but I don't know offhand a seller that both accepts offers and offers multiple shipping options to test this.

When a buyer submits an offer, do they have the option to select the shipping method on the offer screen? With auto-pay offers, this is important.

In the OP's case it seems the listing offered both shipping and pickup, buyer preferred pickup, but was charged $400 for shipping.

Hey @dutch_devil - I suggest contacting the seller immediately to let them know you want to pickup and ask them if they can either refund ship cost or cancel the transaction and relist with pickup only for you to make a new purchase.

@dutch_devil,

You would not see automatic payment unless you made an offer or received one that you accepted from a seller.  It may also happen if the listing was an auction, and the seller had not disabled automatic payments for the auction.

You need to contact the seller and ask them to cancel the transaction, and refund you, because you intended to pick the item up.  They can select Buyer requested cancellation as the reason for the cancellation, to avoid receiving a defect on their account.

Then ask if they will relist the item with the local pickup option only and if you had an offer accepted at that price.   Then you could share contact info with the seller.  Do be aware that you do not have to pay in advance for local pickup items. You pay when you meet with the seller and inspect the item. the link below explains how local pickup listings work and how to indicate that the transaction was completed.

If your seller is inexperienced or new, you could suggest that they post about the transaction on the Community > Selling board. The members there could walk them through the process of cancelling and relisting.

@wastingtime101,

It is possible to list an item with local pickup and a shipping option, and have Best Offer on the listing. However, in order for a buyer to select local pickup, the seller would have had to uncheck the Automatic payment option from their Buyer Requirement > Payments page to accept an offer without the buyer being charged for shipping.

Thanks @mudshark61369 . Does the autopay system force payment for shipping even when local pickup is the first 'shipping' option on the listing and a paid shipping method is the second option on the listing? Does it always default to paid ship? Or is the default with autopay the first shipping method, regardless of freight, pickup, etc?

Do you know if it's a straight shipping situation (no pickup) and the seller offers multiple shipping options, can the buyer select the shipping method before submitting the offer? Or will autopay force payment for the first shipping method on the listing with no choice given to the buyer?
