I was doing a search for an item I want to list...was looking for categories. Best I came up with is ...any better ideas. This is Civil War area and the only Category is for Militia

Looks to me as though the search produced no matches, and that's what the message says--"No exact matches found."
It then shows you a list of "Results matching fewer words," in case you or the seller who created the listing have included or omitted other terms that may or may not be relevant, as well as to offer items with a limited match that may be of interest to you. Nothing in that screenshot implies that the software thinks it's showing you a match for your specific search terms.
I, frankly, don't see the problem. Have you ever searched for anything on Amazon? The absolute worst search feature on the internet--and I exaggerate only slightly for effect.

Did you really expect to find any listings with titles that match all of the eleven words??

No...not at all but found it unusual it didn't even match one word in original search.
It is listed in best category I could figure. I research a lot. Finding resent searches in eBay have changed greatly. My opinion.

It does say "Results matching fewer words", and that search result certainly matches fewer words.
I do see what you're saying...if ebay's gonna try and help they should at least find something a little closer than that...
