I'm in Thailand trying to buy an item from China but when I try to pay for it I get a message that this seller is not compliant with HMRC VAT rules so cannot sell to UK buyers. I first opened my eBay account in the UK but I don't live there now so why am I getting this message? It happens even though I'm trying to get it delivered to an address in Thailand and paying with a Thai credit card. Obviously, I shouldn't be paying UK VAT for this transaction.

No. You can change your registration on this account. It may be a difficult process so opening a new account in Thailand might be easier.

If you live in Thailand register an account in Thailand and this won't happen. You registered in the UK so it doesn't matter what your address is or what you use for payment.
