Buyer not happy with listings...

I am a part time small seller and buyer on ebay. I keep reading about how the sales are down. They are not good for me either. That said, I was looking for a casual button down women's shirt/blouse and browsing the available listings. Here is what I ran into:

1: No measurments on the shirts. I can not go by size, large could be anything. I need measurments, and not just bust size which is what I found a lot. Length from shoulder seam to bottom would be good, and arm pit to arm pit.

2: Shirt advertised as short sleeve, but in the pictures was clearly long sleeved. So which was it? Shirt advertised as two peice, but the picture only showed one shirt. Was there two? or only one?

3: Advertised as button down shirt, but the picture had no buttons! It was clearly  not a button down shirt, unless the pictures were wrong?

4: What is the shirt made out of? cotton? rayon? polyester? There was nothing in the listing to tell me this! This is something I care about, and I bet so do a lot of other buyers.

I finally gave up after thirty pages. I bet a lot of other buyers do too!

To be fair, a lot of the listings had it right, but too many did not.  If you want to sell, you have to get the listing right and include all the critical information.

Buyer not happy with listings...

If the item is something I want very badly, I would message the seller to measure the shirt or whatever.

If not (the usual scenario), I just move on to another seller.

There are literally millions of clothing items listed on eBay every day.  It's one of the most, if not THE most, saturated categories.  Rather than waste time with a seller who is careless with his listings, find another seller.

@sandstonelake,

Your complaint is a common one. When seller come to these boards asking for advice on how to improve sales the suggestions you made, are what we tell them as well.  It would be nice if eBay would do something about a suggestion made to them quite often, to include measurement boxes to certain categories of sales, but they have not.

Buyer not happy with listings...

I disagree with these reasons being why business is slow for some sellers.  A lot of sellers who complain have nice listings.   And fairly recently I had a item up for sale one exactly like mine sold but mine never did and I gave up.  My listing had a nice picture of the item on a half form in front of a black backdrop, measurements, several pics, and was priced lowere than the other.  The one that sold had two pics of it laying on the floor, no measurements, and was priced higher but sold....I blame what eBay search shows the buyer first.   It's not always the best of the best.

I I do have some listings that need improvement now but really after seeing that I basically gave up on all the time I spent on mine it doesn't seem to make a huge difference

Really funny thing is my listings handling time carried from 1-3 days.  Had barely moved anything.  Went on vacation changed everything to 10 day handling time sold two things ha

Buyer not happy with listings...

Sorry you had this experience, OP, but it is all too common.  Buyers aren't responsible for dragging info out of a seller, and many sellers just say, ask questions, as if that absolves them from the responsibility of creating an accurate listing.

So buyers hit the back button.  What else might be lacking if enough effort isn't put into the listing?  Packing, shipping, item inspection?

So sales are down.
