Adding a "VAT filter" to the search tools

Dear eBay,

I would like to provide feedback regarding a feature that could greatly enhance the buying experience for customers like myself.

I used eBay a LOT before the VAT reform, but since then finding the sellers that have the VAT paid upfront is so difficult and time consuming, that buing from eBay is no more fun and easy, nor worth it for most users in Europe.

I would (again) like to suggest the addition of a filter that allows buyers to search specifically for sellers who have already paid the Value Added Tax (VAT).

The proposed filter should be fairly easy to add, and it could be displayed prominently in the search options, alongside other relevant filters such as item condition, price range, and location.

I believe this added filter would be highly beneficial not just for eBay, but also for both buyers and sellers, since many people from Europe have been waiting for this tool for over a year now and would almost certainly start using eBay once again if the filter is added.

Thank you for considering my feedback. I appreciate the continuous efforts eBay makes to improve the platform and provide a positive experience for its users. I hope that my suggestion can be taken into account and contribute to further enhancing eBay's reputation as a reliable and buyer-friendly marketplace.

Sincerely, M

This is a member-to-member forum. No one at eBay will see your post. Further, since VAT doesn't apply in the US, it's highly doubtful the US site would ever incorporate a filter for it.

You're probably right. It's a shame, there is probably thousands of potential eBay users that wont use the app just because of that one stupid filter that is missing.

It wouldn't be complicated to add even, so it's hard to understand why wouldn't they?

It would be well worth it for everyone.

@deadlytramp,

I'm sorry, but that is not how VAT works.  VAT is always charged, every time an item is sold.

Value Added Tax is so called because every time the item is sold, tax is due based on the value of  the item in that sale. The seller (or manufacturer) paid VAT on their purchase price (or the price of materials) when they bought the item, and they collect VAT on their sale price. When they submit the tax to the government, they subtract the amount of VAT they paid from the amount of VAT they collected, and send in the difference, so every time the item is sold, the government receives the tax based on the value that was added to the item between the two sales.

So, there is no such thing as items being sold where the VAT has already been paid. It is always paid every time the item is sold.

This is a major difference between VAT and sales tax, as it is charged in North America. Sales tax is charged on the full sale price, every time the item is sold to a consumer. Retailers and distributors can apply for a sales tax exemption so they do not pay any sales tax when they purchase items for resale (which is often abused). The government only receives the tax when the item is sold to a consumer, but they receive it every time the item is sold to a consumer (as opposed to a retailer or a distributor).

I agree with "deadlytramp", a VAT filter would be very helpful when I am buying stuff for my VAT registered business. It effectively knocks 20% off the prices.
