Metal Dog buttons

I have been a member for some time, but just now getting out my button collection to do some research and see what all I have. Some are common ones, but some are unusual. Here are the ones I am listing on eBay this evening. I am calling them cufflinks, tho they are buttons. They measure about 7/8" across. (please note: these are a silver metal with shanks and toggles, and the blue cast is only from a reflection and not on the button/cufflinks.) I will be back with more of my unique ones, and may be needing help with identifying some. I would like to be more knowledgable about collecting, but I have a lot to learn. I do enjoy looking at all your special ones.

Metal Dog buttons

These "buttons" were designed specifically to funcation as cufflinks. They have slit shanks which don't work real well in sewing due to to the somewhat sharp edges which tend to cut into sewing threads after a while. The real name for this type of shank is "circumflex". Items of this type are frowned upon to be called buttons by the National Button Society as they had another purpose when first made. Those who compete at state and national button shows must be careful about using buttons that came from cufflinks on their competition trays. By the way, in the future you need to submit any images you want the group to look at to the "album" area, no more directly loaded images please. -Carol C- Co-Moderator
