SATNROSE’S BOOK QUIZ

SATNROSE’S BOOK QUIZ

2. What is the most valuable printed book?

Answer in invisible ink: 2. Was The Gutenberg Bible; now it is the Caxton Canterbury Tales

Note: I think a complete Gutenberg would beat the Canterbury if offered up to auction. However, the Caxton Canterbury is currently the most expensive printed book ever to change hands. 13 million? I forget.....

SATNROSE’S BOOK QUIZ

Regarding #12:
You mean that Marian Potter (The Little Red Caboose) isn't the "other Potter"? Seems we have a whole field of Potters, or should that be a Potter's Field?? Likely that English warlock is way ahead of the field now though.

SATNROSE’S BOOK QUIZ

#12:
I'm not sure "most popular" is a term that can be defined well enough to lead to a singular answer.

#13: A few weeks ago I bought a copy of Merry-Go-Round in Oz, a 1963 Reilly & Lee title. I was quite pleasantly surprised to find how few copies were available and what the price was. Since there are subsequent reprints from other publishers, Merry-Go Round is less rare than Laughing Dragon, but if the comparison were restricted to titles from the original publisher, it would be less common.

That led me to check out even later Oz titles.

13. What is the rarest of Oz books?
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, "A" Binding. Laughing Dragon of Oz isn't that hard to find. There's one auctioned on eBay about every other month. They go for $100-$200. However, a WWOZ "A" Binding in Good to Very Good condition would bring $15,000 to $25,000 at auction. A WWOZ even in "B" or "C" Binding, also Good to Very Good, will bring around $3,000.

SATNROSE’S BOOK QUIZ

About #12, an interesting note: Bloomsbury Auctions has a 1st ed. Peter Rabbit up for auction this Thursday. One of the ltd. ed.'s (I think there were only 250) that Beatrix Potter first printed privately for herself and friends. It's not in great condition but it still makes me hyperventilate.

Keep in mind that these quiz questions
were created "off the cuff" for the Book Chat Board.

Keep improving the answers
and no need to name it after me no mo.

Eventually we will have a corrected list
worth of our combined efforts.
