Re: Ask any question about any book Part II

“My Book of Objects,” published by Saul Gabriel & Sons.
It is a cloth book says wash-fabric books on the bottom. I date it to be about 1913ish....

Anyone have anymore info on this?
I dont have pictures yet.
Thanks!

Re: Ask any question about any book Part II

I have no clue on this one. I've actually had this for over a year, but haven't put it up for sale.

Privately published for the International Year of the Child-1979 by The Trafalgar School For Girls- Pupil Press- Montreal-Domtar of Canada and Xerox of Canada- Oblong 4to-unpaginated 44pp printed one side only- tipped in artwork, original poetry/essays/stories some of the artwork signed. Limited edition 53/100

Any idea as to what one of these should be started off at? Have not found another copy of this and I really didn't expect to.

Here are some photos:

Re: Ask any question about any book Part II

Hello. We have a bound volume for one year (1835/36) of a newspaper from Oswego NY. The newspaper only lasted one year.
How do we go about pricing this item?

Thanks
Carol

Re: Ask any question about any book Part II

You look at what similar items have sold for.

Try to find something special in it.

For instance:

The Seminole War in Florida

Anything on Texas:

March 6, 1836: The Fall of the Alamo

April 21, 1836: The Battle of San Jacinto

June 28, 1836: Death of James Madison

Presidential Campaign & Election: Harrison vs. Van Buren

Worldcat doesn't necesarily list everything--it could be in the Oswego library and not turn up here.

However, you might well do better by trying to offer it directly to a library or historical society than selling it on ebay.

Re: Ask any question about any book Part II

Thank you satnrose & oldbookshop. Yes it is the Oswego Observer.

My colleague, wraysbks, already mentioned the American Antiquarian Assn in Worcester, MA as a resource as he thinks it has one of the largest collections of early newspapers in USA.

We'll have to take another look at this volume to see the dates. I thought it was the complete run but it may be only one year.

Re: Ask any question about any book Part II

The AAS is certainly a good place to try. The way I read that description, I don't think either of the libraries has any 1835 issues, but Worldcat cataloging is sometimes impenetrable.

Re: Ask any question about any book Part II

Hello,

I have some an old photos on auction, including 130287742958. It was with a lot of others, mainly daguerreotypes but some ambrotype. This one is on copper, but didn't have a glass on it. I thought maybe it was daguerreotype but darkened with the glass broken off.

Someone emailed me and said it is an ambrotype of a painting called "Evangeline" by Scottish artist Thomas Faed (1826-1900).

Ok, do you know of any other process that would use copper? I have tried researching. Could it be a copper photogravure?

Also, any possible idea of the value?

Thanks,Deb
