There are quite a few books that don't look like anything special. Here's one:

A book that looks like nothing.

The book sugested for this list by jkachelmeyer is ...
1996 Reader's Digest Merry Christmas Songbook - with Lyric Book brought $43.50

Reader's Digest "Merry Christmas" Songbook - Exc.Cond. Spiral Bound 4th printing 1983 brought $50.00

1981 Reader's Digest Merry Christmas Songbook - with Lyric Book brought $94.00

I belive this fits the catagory. Most RD books are not worth trying to sell.

A book that looks like nothing.

Hi there. I've been going through my massive pile of books here in my office this morning, and I found one that makes me question the value.
It is "The Higher Power Of Lucky" by Susan Patron.
An Advanced Reviewer Copy, Uncorrected Proof, First ed, # line from 10 to 1, 2006, paperback.
I looked it up on completed listing on Ebay and the highest price it has sold for showing was $102.50 for hb,dj, 1st.
Is this worth less or more being "uncorrected proof"?
I'm thinking more since it's the uncorrected proof, but I've been known to be wrong many times before.
Thanks so much for your time and help!

Hymn and Revival Anecdotes
A relatively plain brown book with gilt title.
AUTHOR: compiled by Rev. E.S. Lorenz, A.M., © 1887 Rev. W.J. Shuey, published 1897 W.J. Shuey, Publisher, Dayton OH

I don't know if this really fits, because Addall shows 6 copies from $12 to $30, but mine sold for over $100 - 2 bidders, 3 bids total.

And thank you for this thread - I've sold two Security Analysis books, one fourth ed. for about $75 and a fifth ed. for $30, and have also sold a Black's Law for $30. I would never have noticed them but for this thread.

So true! It's amazing how much sticks after a few years of immersion in the business.

How about The Application of Tensors to the ANalysis of ROtating Electrical Machinery by Gabriel Kron, GE Review 1938. Didn't think much of it when I picked it up and listed it, but many of his other books from this time frame list for $200-250 and I have had a BUNCH of emails inquiring about the book since I listed it last night. I found it listed on a couple of sites, but unavailable with no price. I appears to be his first book. Got my fingers crossed!

MARIEC ??? What are you asking? "How about ..."

Do we think it is "A book that looks like nothing"???

or How about adding it to the list? ... about which is the only reason for the existance of this thread. You give no figures that show it to qualify. You don't show to have this for sale or recently sold, nor does it show on E-bay in open or closed autions.

Again to what end is your post?

Hi
Perhaps those of you in the know would have seen the potential in this book but I did not. It is 190079077153 and while I did have a hunch that martial arts books were desirable and the signature was a major plus, too, I still had no idea HOW desirable it would be. It is a book on Kuk Sool, a particular type of martial arts.
Also, I wanted to add that I usually have better photos and more details, but after searching current and completed auctions, realized that people buying this particular type of book already seemed to be familiar with it, so I saved time and kept things pretty minimal. Great condition, so the buyer should be delighted. Got it cheap, keep an eye out for these, folks! Jane

P.S. I did want to add that the book title was too long to put in the title box so I had to settle for simply using the words Kuk Sool and other pertinent details that might catch a bidder's eye. Worked well enough to get a decent price. Jane

The book jcorn is referring to is a Kuk Sool Won martial arts textbook.

All martial arts books are worth a second look,
some are dead common, some are quite valuable.

Martial arts books can come from anywhere,
not only Japan/China/Korea,
but all countries/cultures have some form of unique martial arts tradition.

Thanks, Satnrose for lending your expertise and supporting my hunch that martial arts books are worth a second look. Your knowledge is so appreciated and I am in awe of how much you sell - and how regularly - for great prices.
I don't know enough to separate out the valuable from the common but I hadn't seen this one before and the signature really cinched the deal for me. Jane

Satnrose,
How do you keep track of what you paid for a book and what the net profit is - after eBay fees etc? Is there special software? Pay Pal can give me all expenses except original cost. What do you suggest?
Thanks in advance 2661b
