why do sellers consider an item as shipped, when usps shows awaiting item?

i really want to know how sellers can consider an item as shipped, when only the label has been created and the shipper is still awaiting the item?   i think the buyer should be able to give a no star rating to sellers who do this.....i have an item that i paid for on the 22nd.  and usps is still awaiting item,  and yet status shows as shipped.   i think this is just deceptive.   why do sellers do this?

Sellers are not responsible for stating the item shipped when a label is printed.  It is ebay that is stating that in the message they send out to the buyers.  Sellers have been wanting ebay to change the message they send out, for years, but they seem to refuse to do that.  That is the reason I do not print my shipping labels until just before I go to the post office.  But sellers with huge numbers of packages to ship out will often print their labels before they actually deliver the packages to the carrier.

If you see a bubble on a page that asks "Tell us what you think" I suggest you use it.  Perhaps if buyers start asking ebay to change the wording on that message, they will finally listen.

Sellers don't control the shipped status. If they print the label with eBay it automatically gets marked shipped even if they select a future ship date.

Hi @daw180

As soon as a seller creates a shipping label … an eBay bot sends an email to the buyer saying ‘Your item is being shipped!

Sellers have no choice in the wording of this message.

Since USPS doesn’t always scan packages ‘Accepted’ when dropped off at the post office … it doesn’t seem possible for eBay to pinpoint exactly when an item has taken this step.

It would be a shame if you were to punish the seller for the wording eBay uses to inform the buyer of the start of the shipping process … which is similar to what other companies use BTW.

So the seller creates the shipping label?  is this done on line?   does the seller physically have the label as soon as it is created or do they get it when the bring the item to the usps.

what bothers me soooo much is the fact that the item is considered shipped the day the label is created....even if the seller has not provided the shipper with the item.   this gives the seller the ability to say, see i shipped it, can't be held responsible for what usps does afterwards.   in the case i am referring to, the item was paid for on the 22nd, the label created the 27th, and the track package status still shows as shipper awaiting item.   that is five days from payment to label creation.....and track package still does not show package in their system.    if the buyer has a finite time to pay before negative actions, the seller should have the same onus put on them.   get the item to the shipper and don't hide behind the false ship date.   i think this is only fair.   is there something i am missing here???

A visionary is someone who has be here for many years and has helped many, many, user.

An adventurer is someone that is starting out on the froum and is looking to an adventure.

Yes the labels are done on and yes the seller has the label in hand when the notice goes out.

The seller has to specify a handling time when the listing is created, from same day to 30 days.  If the seller does not print the shipping label within the specified handling time, and it does not have an acceptance scan, ebay does record a late shipping ding on the seller's account.  Too many defects and the seller can be restricted or suspended.  Sellers are evaluated on the 20th of each month.
