I have a buyer who is returning a defective product and supposedly they have until February 22, 2023 to return it. Ebay keeps sending me a message to pay the buyer their refund now but I prefer to send them their refund when the item is back in my hands. Is this some sort of a new policy where the seller must return funds before the item arrives back to the seller?

Did you send a shipping label? You don’t have to refund until you get the item back.

Do not refund until you have the item back. Chances are if you refund first, you will never get your item back.

I have not and assumed eBay does that.
The message from eBay is:
Per eBay's policy, this return has been automatically approved and we've asked the buyer to send the item back. |
After the buyer ships the item, we'll share the tracking information with you. |

@thesmileaislestore what was the reason given for the return?
