return an item purchased from ebay. unable to return it because seller dropped out of site

No information about the item I purchased, since seller dropped out of site, there is no record of my purchase anywhere to process a return. E-bay's chat is useless.  I have been trying to return the item for two weeks to no avail.

Please help, anybody.
