is it possible to set up any permanent filters on general ebay searches?

for instance, I do NOT want any more llistings from Japan to show up in my searches. I have to filter these out by the refinement filter "US only" checkbox.  I have to then do this every time I search. It is very annoying. Is there a way a setting,  to set searches to ALWAYS search only US?

If you use the eBay app it is possible to lock certain filters.

Using a desktop browser, eBay's item location setting will return to the "default" option when searching unless you bookmark or save a particular search and use that as a starting point for your searches.

There is a third party browser extension called "eBay item location -- my country only" which if installed in your browser can override eBay's "default" item location setting.
