Sold an item and shipped with USPS. Tracking is not updating and suspect package is LOST. However, post office will not admit it is lost and told me to wait. How long do I wait before issuing a refund to the buyer? I'm afraid that if I issue a refund to the buyer for lost... and then the package turns up and is delivered, then how do I get my money back?
You experience on this situation is appreciated.

Do not refund the buyer until he opens a not received claim.
You can file a missing mail report 7 days after mailing. You can file a claim if sent priority or insured first class after 15 days. Go to usps.com for both.
If you have to refund the buyer, and the item is worth spending $15 return shipping, request a package intercept so it is returned to you instead of delivered to the buyer.
If delivered to the buyer after you refund, you must work with the buyer to arrange return or repayment of the refund.
