dealing with an item that was replaced but eBay has no option 2 stop telling you to refund the buyer

Does anyone know a way to deal with the constant messages from eBay telling you to refund the buyer after you have sent a replacement item?  There is no eBay customer service right now, not even by chat or email. 
I know if I rely on the customer to close the return, eBay will refund them before they actually do it.  Then the chase is on with eBay, because they don't give a **bleep** about sellers
