What is EBAY's problem with AMEX?

What the heck is EBAY's problem not accepting American Express after August?  This is a direct stab in the gut.  Many of my buyers are business buyers AND BUSINESSES USE AMEX !!   Of all the intelligent people working at EBAY and AMEX, they can't come to terms?  This is HORRIBLE news at best.  You all need to get your heads screwed on the right way and QUIT PUNISHING YOUR SELLERS!!    FIX IT !!   There are too many other platforms to move my business and store to.   This is absolutely absurd !!

American Express has higher fee than other credit cards and eBay has decided that it is not worth it.

This is absurd.   Pass those fees off to the buyer then.   That is not a reasonable answer.  EBAY is not the seller here.  I AM !!    I am paying EBAY to promote my items through them.  EBAY is like MY employee.  I am giving them a paycheck (fees) every time I sell something here.  Not only am I giving them around 11% in Final Value Fees,  I am giving them Promoted Listing fees on top of that and you are telling me they can't afford AMEX when Amazon, Poshmark, Mercari and even Marketplace can afford it?  Give me a break here !!   Many of my buyers and many other Seller's  buyers sell inventory to businesses and businesses use American Express.   Ebay is going to force half of the sellers away.   I feel like this is the beginning of the end for EBAY.   Trust Me !!!   They can afford it.   Let's take a look at the GROSS profit they are earning.   Ebay has to come up with a better reason than "IT'S NOT WORTH IT" to get us to stay with EBAY.    EBAY is making money.   But we sellers have to get punished here.   Thank you for your time.   Get ready for a LOT and I mean A LOT of unhappy sellers !!    Christopher

Pretty obvious that eBay's reason is the same as my reason.  AmEx costs too much.  Years ago, when I was comparing companies to choose one to get a credit card from, AmEx was the only one that charged an annual fee, so that culled them right out of consideration.  Today, I have two Visa cards and one Mastercard.  None of them charges an annual fee.  I don't know about comparing interest rates because I pay total bill every month, stay current, never carry a balance over to the next month, so interest doesn't affect me.  I don't know about perks or points or any of that kind of stuff because I don't participate.

Pass those fees off to the buyer then.

It is likely that Amex has a clause in its merchant contract that prevents those fees from being passed on to consumers, or more merchants would do exactly that.

I wonder if an Amex card could still be used by selecting PayPal at eBay's checkout and using the Amex card through the PayPal account. Presumably in that case PayPal, and not eBay, would be paying the Amex fee. Unless PayPal also stops accepting Amex as well.

And unless PayPal is somehow passing along its fees to eBay, I do not think eBay can dictate which forms of payment PayPal can accept.

That might be worth trying after August 17th to see if it works.

I wish I had a nickel for every time that eBay apocalypse has been predicted.  Not to worry ... if you're correct and this decision affects the bottom line, eBay will probably rethink the cost-benefit and reconsider.

" EBAY is like MY employee. "  That would be a hard NO !  Ebay doesn't have to abide by rules that you set as a seller.  Ebay owns the site, we use the site.

The sky is not falling because of this change.
