Variations Re-listing issue. What's the best way to make the pain stop?

A few months ago I opted into the Basic Store subscription.  In the beginning of September, I noticed that some of my sold listings were not actually in my inventory.  After a few days of this, I noticed that 100's of my listings ended at the end of August.  Confused to see this (based on my subscription) I simply relisted EVERYTHING!  Many of the relisted listings included variations.  What I did not anticipate , and what I believe is the root of my issue, is that the variations relisted as originally listed...with variations that were previously sold.

For weeks now, and on a daily basis, I have to explain to buyers that the I am very sorry but the item they purchased is not vailable?  What is the best way to get out of this mess?

The only thing I can think of since you know about when these relisted is to sort the Active list by Time Left or Start Date.  This will at least group those listings together for review.

Yes, when you relist manually everything goes back to the original.  The way to avoid this is not to let fixed price listings end until you manually end them and not automatically when quantities go to zero.  To do this is use the out of stock option to keep them active even though buyers can not purchase until you increase the quantity to one or more.

rfmtm.....Can I freaking hug you?????   Thank you!

I think I know the answer, but based on my exisisting situation, do you have any recommendations to prevent future sales of unavailable listed items without having to individually compare "Paid and Shipped" to "Active listings"?  Having to do that would take for ever and perhaps cause even more errors.
