Shipping to a different address than the one on thier account

Buyer asked to have item shipped to his new address, different than the one on his account. Sounds like a scam. Would I still be covered if I did send it to new address or should I ship it to address on his account?

@slemo-7

In order to be protected from a scam, you ship to the address provided by Ebay.

Did the message come from the actual buyer? Did you compare usernames?

If so, you could inform them that they would have to request a cancellation of the transaction in order to re-purchase the item using the correct shipping address.

There is no way for you to know what address a buyer has on his account. The buyer selects an address at checkout and it can be wherever he wants the item shipped.

If the buyer has already paid and wants to change the address, do as already advised and verify the request is coming from the same user ID. If so, then you can cancel the transaction and relist the item so the buyer can repurchase with the correct address. Remind him to select/add it at checkout before he completes payment.

@slemo-7   No, you will lose your Seller protection on an item not received claim.  It is safer to ship to the address on file at the time of the purchase.  The time is ticking on your Handling time so any messages to the Buyer asking them to request a cancellation may be moot if they do not get back to you before you have to ship.  If it were me and they did not answer I would Cancel using the Reason "Problem with address" which it is after all.  I have explained eBay's rules on more than one occasion to Buyers who, unless they sell, are oblivious to all the hoops Sellers have to jump through, over and around ...
