Shipping charges for multiple variations of an item

Setting up variations of new cassette tapes to be sold.  If the customer picks 5 different ones how does the shipping charges work?  If the shipping charge says $3.60, is that for one tape or is that for all 5?  Does it combine the weight and calculate the shipping charge?

You can create different RULES for combined shipping.  I only create one rule, which is to ADD THE WEIGHTS.

Some sellers create a rule to add a specific dollar amount for each "additional" item, or each additional item subtracts a certain dollar amount from the cost of shipping one item.
