Selling an item that has $4 shipping... Customer bought 2, Ebay charged $2 shipping? Why?

Sorry if I am missing something obvious. I mostly list things via Mobile, and only realized how to fix the issue I was having with people buying 2 of one item, but only being charged shipping for one. (App doesn't have the option for the 'additional amount')

So, this time... I had 2 items sell for 9.99 each. Shipping is a flat rate $4. I can ship 2 for $4, so if it was just the $4... That wouldn't have been a big deal. But I looked, and Ebay only charged the customer $2. They bought double the items, for half of the listed shipping price of one. Any idea why Ebay would do that? I don't have any promotions or similar things going... and none of my other items have sold and charged less shipping like that....

It's not a huge deal... I am just trying to understand what went wrong, so I can fix it in the future.

Thank you for any advice. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

It must show another item for the second unit purchased - that only shows 1 of the 2.  eBay is splitting the shipping between the 2 items - the second should also show $2.00 shipping.

They do this in case of returns - if a buyer opens a not as described return for 1 of the 2, you would be expected to refund $2.00 of the shipping.

Thank you. You're right. I guess I missed that it was only 9.99 on there, and not the 19.98 it should have been.  It's weird, as I don't believe it's done that before on other sales I've made.

Thank you, and sorry for the dumb question.  I was exhausted last night, and evidently not running on a full tank mentally. Haha

Not dumb at all! I am used to it splitting the shipping by item, but I think this is the first time I have seen a multiple quantity split into 2 items, too.  Always something new 🙂
