I've decided to stop buying from sellers who don't accept returns. From a customer service perspective, this is just bad business. I always try to make customers happy, even if it involves a financial loss to me. What gives with these sellers?

@beeabouttown A sellers return policy is for buyers remorse returns ONLY. You are still covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee if the item is somehow not as described.
Some sellers don't understand that at least offering buyer pays returns is a good idea. I know that some categories are going to have a higher return rate so that can really hurt small sellers. I personally offer Free Returns.

How do Free Returns work?

The seller pays return shipping and accept the return for ANY reason, even remorse returns. If it's a remorse return the seller can withhold the original cost to ship the item out of the refund IF they didn't offer Free Shipping.
If it's a not as described return ( even if you don't agree with the reason) then you pay return shipping and refund the buyer 100%. That's the eBay MBG policy.
Free Returns do offer some seller protections too though
Sellers have protection for return abuse if they offer FREE RETURN shipping on their listings OR if they are a Top Rated seller and offer 30 days or greater returns. The seller can then reduce the refund amount by up to 50% if the buyer sends a different item or somehow reduces the value of the item.

If the buyer abuses the eBay MBG in some way then you can report them and it goes on their record, but it doesn't get your money back:
