Sellers marking an item shipped but only creating a label

It is so frustrating as a buyer that a seller can mark an item shipped after only creating a shipping label.

It promotes lazy seller behavior as there is no incentive to quickly get the item to the carrier. I think I remember in the past that an item could only be marked "shipped" after the first carrier scan.

Just like on every other site, tracking #s are provided after a label is created - not when it ships. (Creating a label is the first step in the shipping process. Some sellers have systems that create labels as soon as the order comes in.)

Sellers who don't receive a scan within their handling time are penalized by eBay, so there certainly is an incentive to get the item to the carrier. (Quickly doesn't enter into it - a seller's handling time, which is built into the delivery estimate, can be from 1-30 days.)

It doesn't matter when the label is created, it only matters that you receive your item by the estimated delivery date. If you don't, then you can take action.
