I am an experienced eBay user and know how to search. But lately I get unrelated garbage in my results. For instance, I wanted a specific dress with coral in the print, so I searched on the maker’s name and also the words “dress” and “coral”. I got lots of results that didn’t have “coral” in the title. I tried putting “coral” in quote marks but that didn’t help. Note that I had NOT chosen to search the descriptions. So why on earth would I get any results without “coral” in the title? This has happened with many searches on my phone, using the app. It isn’t like that on my desktop browser.

eBay considers keywords in the item-specifics of a listing to constitute a match for your search, not just keywords that appear in the title.
There may be a difference in your default search settings in your browser compared to the settings you are using the app, and that might lead to differences in the results you see.
If your searches work well on a desktop browser, try saving your search and opening the saved search in the app. You should see the same results, if you are using the same location to calculate your shipping estimates in the eBay app.
